As titled, I have the Bose TV speaker connected to my samsung TV by optical. I switched my audio output to optical and sound comes out of the sound bar but I can't control the volume using Samsung remote. When I try to change the volume using Samsung remote, I just see optical message come up with no change to volume.
Help!!
Hello! I recently purchased the Bose TV Speaker Soundbar (2020). I installed it, but I had a few things happen that I'm a bit confused about and was wondering if someone might have an idea?
1.) My TV does have an HDMI-ARC input. Do I need to use a specific HDMI cable or will any HDMI cable work? I originally just tried using an ordinary HDMI cable and I couldn't get audio to work. As soon as I connected the optical cable, it started working fine. When I put the ordinary HDMI cable in, I did some of the recommended tips, disabling TV speakers, looking for sound output, etc. Didn't see an option to "select" another type of input though.
2.) Pairing a 3rd party remote. I currently run a Google TV Chromecast attachment which comes with it's own remote. I was trying to program the remote to match with the Bose remote, per the instructions. But, I found that no matter what I did, the remote that I tried to connect with could only do 1 function. Eg If I paired "Mute" from Bose to my 3rd party remote, then it doesn't matter what other functions I paired. ANY input would just mute the sound bar. TV Input, Volume Up/Down, Mute. Everything would mute. I also found that it also programmed this into a 3rd party universal remote that I had laying around that I didn't actively program. This went the same for volume up or down. It would only adjust one way. Where it got particularly annoying, for example when the programming was "stuck" to "Always Volume Up", if I tried to change the TV input, my remote requires me to "click" the input button to move/choose which input to go to. However, it would increase the volume every time I clicked it, so from HDMI 1 -> 3, it would go up twice, so, if I missed the rotation, that was X amount of times the volume would keep increase. For now, I've left it at "MUTE" as it doesn't cause any problems when changing, just a little bit annoying.
Once I put in the optical cable, there were no issues in audio detection. No settings I had to toggle or do anything. Sound just started coming out normally. I even disconnected the HDMI cable while the optical cable was in, to see if there'd be any change, but there was no effect that the HDMI cable even had in the first place.
In terms of how it's connected, I connected an HDMI cable to the HDMI-ARC input on my TV to the HDMI port of the sound bar. For TV Input, I just went to the input that my Chromecast was in. I bought an HDMI-ARC cable that should be coming in today or tomorrow, but I'm not sure if the cable will fix my problems.
