Hello fellow flyers,

I currently fly with a pair of Bose X that I got 4 years ago. With brand new pads and a new mic muff.

It still feels comfortable and the ANC seems all good.

I was just wondering for you that have tried both headset, is there a major difference in the ANC ? Would the A20 be quieter ?

I'm about at 320h in a cessna 180 and I feel like my ears are already humming when it's silence so I'm trying to make sure I've got the best protection.

Per what I read that one pilot said comparing the A20’s to the A30’s, he said that when he tried on the A30’s he didn’t really see hardly a difference to the A20’s. He thought it was going to be a huge night and day difference like when he went upgrades from the Bose X to the A20’s. Hope that helps anecdotally.

The new headsets, A30’s, are getting good reviews by those paid by Bose. Others are saying they feel like they are cheap and the variable ANR is dumb. Why wouldn’t you want the full ANR. Most say stick with the A20’s from reviews not by paid users/influencers (hate the word influencer).

So I’m just about to start flying for my PPL! Very excited! I have done a good amount of research and decided to go with the Bose A20’s. I also know I will select one of the A20 configurations with bluetooth. But there are 6 different A20’s with bluetooth and I can’t find answers anywhere online. Someone tell me which specific bluetooth set I should be purchasing? I’ve included a screenshot from the Bose website so you can see all the options, I think it’s the bluetooth dual plug, straight cable but I honestly am not sure.

Straight cable with Bluetooth, most likely dual GA plugs. I would double check with the plane. But before you buy I would do some flying first as A20s are am expensive investment just for you to give up on flying. Edit: coiled vrs straight is user preference Edit 2: I didn't realize you don't get coiled for GA plugs, sorry.

As the title suggests, I'm a student pilot trying to decide on the A20 or A30 headset. Please keep this to just comparing the two; I know there are other great options but I have decided I want a Bose. If you were a student pilot deciding between these two, which would you get and why? TIA.

I've never used the 30s but from everything I've seen and heard I am not impressed. Personally I'd get the 20s, which you can probably get cheaper as people make room for the 30s or just because there's more on the used market. FWIW I had mine for years (I still have them) and a lot of hours and they held up great.

Second hand, lightly used A20s. Plenty of students buy them new at the start of their training, get their licence then stop flying after a couple of years and eventually put their expensive headset up for sale on eBay etc.

I am just getting started with my flight lessons, and my instructor told my I should get a pair of A20 headsets. I plan on making this my career, and have a lot of flying ahead of me. But should I buy the A20s now, or wait till I'm further along?

I bought my A20s, tripped on them getting out of the plane and ripped them in half. Bose replaced them for free. While I was waiting for the replacement I disliked flying with my crappy backup headset so much that bought another pair of A20s to be my backup headset. If you have the money just do it. No regrets.

A good ANR headset is a MASSIVE improvement in comfortability while flying. I think Boses are overpriced though, I'm not incredibly impressed by them at all. I'd recommend the Lightspeed Zulus much more, plus they're like $400 cheaper.
