Just throwing a warning out there for all the redditors in Ottawa. Brault & Martineau in Gatineau is a horrible place for furniture. My family bought a dining room set and a display cabinet from them. When we got them, only one of the chairs assembled, the cabinet doors were all impossible to close completely, and the back board of it was popping out by a cm or so.
Call them up, tell them what happened, and they gave us the run-around, saying its not possible, not their fault, etc. Eventually, speak to a competent person on the other end of the line. Get our furniture replaced, think everything is going to be fine.
Fast forward about a week and a half later, get delivery of everything. New cabinet has a split down one of the legs, doors don't close again. Sigh, tell them to just take it back and bring a new one. All the new chairs looked fine, until the first time we use them. Someone sits on a chair, and the thing breaks. A split right down the leg, which was obviously glued together after it broke in the assembly line. Demand it be replaced, they say fine, but we have to drive it in. We live in Orleans. Kind of a pain in the ass.
All in all, a terrible experience for furniture that really isn't worth writing home about. And then only reason to write about it at all is to tell you to stay away from the company.
TL;DR: Brault & Martineau sell shitty furniture and you should avoid them.
For anyone looking for a good experience... I'd fully recommend dufrense! We just recently replaced our kitchen and washer/dryer. Yeah we paid a little extra but the best in store service and extraordinary delivery!
(this is compared to experience we've had with Leons and the brick)
Why didn't you just buy it in Ottawa?
I've had it with furniture stores in this city. First we stopped going to The Brick, and now this. My wife and I bought a leather couch at Brault et Martineau (the location in LaSalle) two weeks ago. A week later it was delivered, and the two men who manhandled it from the truck into our house and rushed it open with their exacto knives sliced a 5 cm gash in the back, along with a couple other scrapes.
We pointed it out and they called their dispatch or home office or whoever, who said he'd have a technician call us. We asked about getting a rebate as it seems nuts to pay full price for a now damaged couch, but no. Talked to two other people about it who also said there's no chance of a rebate. We had to wait 48 hours for them to call us JUST to arrange for the technician to call us... in another 48 hours.
They did while we were at work and left a message. I called back as soon as I got home, but there was no answer. Spent the morning calling back a couple times and nothing. My wife tried a couple times as well and left a message. I tried one more time and got someone immediately. All I had on me at work was the phone number that was left, but the person I talked to said she needed to know the exact person that called, and me giving them my number or any other information wouldn't help and there was nothing she could do. They called my wife while she was at lunch, and she managed to call back and get a hold of someone... who said they can send someone out on the 28th. Which of course leaves us plenty of time to be paranoid and careful with this couch since any little damage that might get inflicted between now and then they'll use to say nothing can be done and we wouldn't be able to get our money back if they can't fix it.
We had enough so we thought forget it, the service has been terrible we don't want them to have our money, so I called Brault et Marinteau to just have it picked up and refunded. The person told me they don't have that policy. I explained that THEY damaged the couch on delivery, which she kept somehow claiming they didn't, it was the manufacturer, even though I explained that I was standing there watching the men while they used their exacto knives on the packaging. She said either way, they don't have a return policy... No return policy for merchandise that was delivered damaged? What the hell? She said the technician has to come and fix it, and if they can't fix it perfectly, we have to sort things out with someone at the head office named Valerie. And STILL no possibilty of getting any sort of rebate for this DAMAGED COUCH that they refuse to take back.
We're going to keep fighting this even if I have to take the time to walk into the store itself and start telling, but either way if you're looking for furniture avoid these sons of bitches like the plague.
