I am about to purchase a car seat for our baby and really like the look of the Britax, but the stores where we live do not carry one that I can see or lift to see how heavy it is. Does anyone have one? More on mamapedia.com

So in 2018 we went car shopping, anticipating that it would be the car we’d have with our first kid. We mentioned wanting kids, and we were looking at the Mazda 3 hatchback. The sales guy brought out the car seat he had in his car to show us how small the backseat is. So this would have been a newer model on the showroom floor, but it was still a very tight fit, and he didn’t even have it strapped in.

We wound up getting a Subaru Impreza hatchback, and an Uppababy Mesa. It’s still tight but it fits.

In general, with smaller cars, you’ll probably have to have the front passenger seat moved up so much that no one can sit there, so that the car seat can fit in the backseat behind, rather than the backseat middle seat.

I have both of these seats. I personally prefer the extend2fit but it depends on your goals. Britax install is super easy. I find the daily use to be fiddly & annoying. The harness seems to get tangled on me frequently & it doesn’t come with a cup holder. I think most people truly love their britax seats, but it just isn’t my cup of tea. The extend2fit has weird square cup holders, but cup holders nonetheless. It also has little buckle holders to keep the harness out of the way when putting your child in. I love this. It’s a small detail but great. It also rear faces to 50 lbs, so if extended rear facing is something important to you, keep that in mind. Britax rear faces to 40 lbs. something also to keep in mind is I believe the extend2fit requires an awkward recline if you forward face before 40 lbs. My very long 20 month old loves the extra leg room with it too.
