Tears in Brooklinen sheets/duvet cover
Here's the thing: Brooklinen's sheets are just 270 thread count cotton (made in Israel) that likely cost about $10-20 to manufacture for a Queen set, but they sell them for $129 for a Queen set for their cheapest one. You're paying for a brand, not a product. Cotton is cotton, and though there are different types (Pima, Supima, etc.), the quality of your sheets largely depends on the weave, yarn length, and a bunch of other factors during the actual manufacturing process. Brooklinen is mostly a marketing company that's built a great brand that sells their private labeled cotton sheets from contract manufacturers that sell that exact same fabric to other brands you can buy from at a much lower price (for literally the exact same material). They probably don't have any exclusivity deals with their manufacturing partners and wouldn't need to – their sheets are very basic on the whole. I'm sure they have a product dev and design team in house and supply chain managers, but they're not actually making the sheets (most brands do not). So you're paying more for their brand than anything else, so they should absolutely replace those for you since that's the major value they're providing :). The same sheets at a lower price wouldn't come with a lifetime warranty, but if you think about it, they'd rather pay $15 to manufacture a new set of sheets and $8 to ship it to you than to lose your business for life if they don't deliver on their brand promise. Source: I'm CEO of a competing bedding brand (Sheets & Giggles), so I have weird a weird amount of bedding industry knowledge. More on reddit.com

Been sleeping under Brooklinen Down Comforter and Sateen Duvet Cover for last few weeks. . .
I don't think most complaints on the sub for Brooklinen has to do with their down comforter quality or their duvet covers; it's mostly for their sheets being rough-as-shoe-leather and flimsy material that breaks down quickly and tears very easily in comparison to other sheet sets. In fact, the consensus for Brooklinen is that their duvet covers tend to be nicer quality than their other products (especially their sheets) and I don't think I've seen many negative reviews for their comforters/inserts at all, come to think of it. The biggest complaint I see is that its longevity and fabric quality (for the sheets, at the least) has degraded over time or is not worth the price tag; it also seems that most positive reviews for the brand are from the 'honeymoon period' and not long-term (over a year, etc). I'll be curious to see if (after a year or two) the material for the duvet cover is still holding strong. If it does then that's great! Thanks for your review about it; all info is good info, in my book :) More on reddit.com

Are any real people pleased with Brooklinen?
NO NO NO!! The quality is terrible. I was super disappointed because I’d bought them as a gift that was supposed to be generous, but they fell apart right out of the wash. Also, if you want to speak with customer service you have to make an appointment. (Wtf?) That said, customer service was good, refunded my money and “astounded” that there were quality issues. They had me donate the sheets somewhere where large swaths of fabric with holes in them might be of value. We gave them to an animal rescue. More on reddit.com

LLB on the right, Brooklinen on the left

Thanks to everyone on this forum who helps differentiate between good products and good marketing. I’d been skulking this forum for a while as I redecorate and wanted to post a comparison between the two here to help others in the future.

I initially ordered a Brooklinen Percale duvet cover in king because the brand seemed “well known” and the product seemed promising. I ordered the L.L. Bean option as well, which took a little longer to come in. I used the Brooklinen cover for a few days and it was okay; it wasn’t as cool as I was expecting, but I loved the color and the fit. The “crispness” was fun at first but after a while it felt like sleeping in a starched shirt. Felt a little too crispy.

The LL Bean cover came in a few days later and as soon as it came out of the packaging it was evident that the quality was so much better. The LLB cover does have a higher thread count (280 vs 270), but even still the quality of the cotton and the construction surpassed the Brooklinen cover. The Brooklinen cover even had a few threads coming out from the inside seams after the first wash.

Other advantages of the LLB duvet cover: 1) sleeps noticeably cooler 2) is “quieter” when moving about (the Brooklinen really is as loud as a tarp) 3) it’s cheaper, and their website even offered a discount code which made it almost 25% cheaper than the Brooklinen option 4) is softer to the touch 5) more robust duvet ties (pictured) 6) better quality buttons, and more of them.

The Brooklinen is okay, but at this price point and with this quality the LLB is the clear winner. The only thing Brooklinen did better, IMO, was their color selection; they had options that better aligned with my design plans and seemed more modern overall. I ordered a grey one too (not pictured) and did really like how it looked in person. Their web depiction was more accurate to the real life product (the LLB cover was a “silver sand” but it looks more like sand when it’s wet as opposed to when it’s dry, and I was hoping for something closer to a cream).

Anyway, that’s my experience. I hope someone finds this helpful!

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Tears in Brooklinen sheets/duvet cover
November 26, 2019 -

I’ve gone through several IKEA duvet covers and thought I was finally investing in a more lasting option with Brooklinen. I love how they feel, however the fitted sheet ripped pretty early on and maybe a year later I got around to contacting their customer service. They were awesome and replaced it. Now 3 years later the duvet also has a rip which is now gigantic. I can’t bring myself to contacting customer service again but I’m now pretty hesitant to use them again since I’ve had 2 issues. I expected more after shelling out more than my previous max of $50. Has anyone else had problems with these or higher end bed linen? Should I not expect them to last that long?

Currently using the IKEA Vararat Duvet cover which I took back from the guest bedroom. That thing won’t die and still feels alright. I just don’t love the pattern. I do love the fact that it has a zipper because while I’m ranting about sheets, I would like to add that it really seems like all pillow covers and duvet covers should have zippers rather than ties. I hate the stupid ties and even with buttons the bottom tends to bulge out.

I’ve had 3 replacement duvets sent over the course of maybe 4 years. Frustrated with the durability, but appreciate the willingness to replace. Can’t seem to find any better quality percale duvet covers at a competitive price, though.
