When I first got Brooklinen years ago it was super high quality. I bought a set like a year ago and it was completely different quality… The duvets ripped at the buttons. They replaced it and the other one still ripped. I refuse to buy from them now. Answer from Deleted User on reddit.com

r/Bedding on Reddit: Affirming the superiority of L.L. Bean duvet covers to Brooklinen
April 28, 2024 -

LLB on the right, Brooklinen on the left

Thanks to everyone on this forum who helps differentiate between good products and good marketing. I’d been skulking this forum for a while as I redecorate and wanted to post a comparison between the two here to help others in the future.

I initially ordered a Brooklinen Percale duvet cover in king because the brand seemed “well known” and the product seemed promising. I ordered the L.L. Bean option as well, which took a little longer to come in. I used the Brooklinen cover for a few days and it was okay; it wasn’t as cool as I was expecting, but I loved the color and the fit. The “crispness” was fun at first but after a while it felt like sleeping in a starched shirt. Felt a little too crispy.

The LL Bean cover came in a few days later and as soon as it came out of the packaging it was evident that the quality was so much better. The LLB cover does have a higher thread count (280 vs 270), but even still the quality of the cotton and the construction surpassed the Brooklinen cover. The Brooklinen cover even had a few threads coming out from the inside seams after the first wash.

Other advantages of the LLB duvet cover: 1) sleeps noticeably cooler 2) is “quieter” when moving about (the Brooklinen really is as loud as a tarp) 3) it’s cheaper, and their website even offered a discount code which made it almost 25% cheaper than the Brooklinen option 4) is softer to the touch 5) more robust duvet ties (pictured) 6) better quality buttons, and more of them.

The Brooklinen is okay, but at this price point and with this quality the LLB is the clear winner. The only thing Brooklinen did better, IMO, was their color selection; they had options that better aligned with my design plans and seemed more modern overall. I ordered a grey one too (not pictured) and did really like how it looked in person. Their web depiction was more accurate to the real life product (the LLB cover was a “silver sand” but it looks more like sand when it’s wet as opposed to when it’s dry, and I was hoping for something closer to a cream).

Anyway, that’s my experience. I hope someone finds this helpful!

r/Bedding on Reddit: Brooklinen PSA do not buy!
December 5, 2024 -

Writing this to warn others not to use this company. I was a big advocate for them when I first bought in 2020. When I bought they had a lifetime warranty, I had an issue with my sheets less than a year and was told to return the sheets and I will get store credit for a new set replacement no issue. Great! Now 2024 my replacement sheets have started to shred and developed a few holes. I reached out and explained I bought sheets with a lifetime warranty and they refused to honor since technically these new sheets are 2021 sheets that don’t have a lifetime warranty. The guy told me “I’m going to be frank with you, we don’t honor that lifetime warranty anymore” Not only is their product crap but so is their customer service. Don’t listen to the ads by celebrities or influencers saying this brand is good. They suck and are fraudulent by not honoring the warranty sold with their product.

November 26, 2019 -

I’ve gone through several IKEA duvet covers and thought I was finally investing in a more lasting option with Brooklinen. I love how they feel, however the fitted sheet ripped pretty early on and maybe a year later I got around to contacting their customer service. They were awesome and replaced it. Now 3 years later the duvet also has a rip which is now gigantic. I can’t bring myself to contacting customer service again but I’m now pretty hesitant to use them again since I’ve had 2 issues. I expected more after shelling out more than my previous max of $50. Has anyone else had problems with these or higher end bed linen? Should I not expect them to last that long?

Currently using the IKEA Vararat Duvet cover which I took back from the guest bedroom. That thing won’t die and still feels alright. I just don’t love the pattern. I do love the fact that it has a zipper because while I’m ranting about sheets, I would like to add that it really seems like all pillow covers and duvet covers should have zippers rather than ties. I hate the stupid ties and even with buttons the bottom tends to bulge out.

Here's the thing: Brooklinen's sheets are just 270 thread count cotton (made in Israel) that likely cost about $10-20 to manufacture for a Queen set, but they sell them for $129 for a Queen set for their cheapest one. You're paying for a brand, not a product. Cotton is cotton, and though there are different types (Pima, Supima, etc.), the quality of your sheets largely depends on the weave, yarn length, and a bunch of other factors during the actual manufacturing process. Brooklinen is mostly a marketing company that's built a great brand that sells their private labeled cotton sheets from contract manufacturers that sell that exact same fabric to other brands you can buy from at a much lower price (for literally the exact same material). They probably don't have any exclusivity deals with their manufacturing partners and wouldn't need to – their sheets are very basic on the whole. I'm sure they have a product dev and design team in house and supply chain managers, but they're not actually making the sheets (most brands do not). So you're paying more for their brand than anything else, so they should absolutely replace those for you since that's the major value they're providing :). The same sheets at a lower price wouldn't come with a lifetime warranty, but if you think about it, they'd rather pay $15 to manufacture a new set of sheets and $8 to ship it to you than to lose your business for life if they don't deliver on their brand promise. Source: I'm CEO of a competing bedding brand (Sheets & Giggles), so I have weird a weird amount of bedding industry knowledge.

I’ve had 3 replacement duvets sent over the course of maybe 4 years. Frustrated with the durability, but appreciate the willingness to replace. Can’t seem to find any better quality percale duvet covers at a competitive price, though.

We should've looked at the posts here first. But we bought a new set of sheets and a duvet cover. We received yesterday, washed it today, put them on the bed.

  1. Duvet cover was a queen size. Did not come close to covering our queen size bed.

  2. Pillow cover ripped on first use while putting a pillow inside it.

  3. Overall shoddy, paper-thin material.

We usually get LL Bean for bedding but decided to save a few bucks. "Cheap is expensive" as the saying goes.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Question regarding duvet cover sizing
May 8, 2024 -

Hi all!

We have a full/queen sized percale duvet cover from Brooklinen (90” x 90”) and are looking to also purchase one of the All Season Cotton Covered Silk Comforters from Mommesilk to go with it.

What we can’t figure out is which size to get- the internet’s answers for comforter/duvet and cover sizing is a bit all over the place. The comforter size options are:

Queen (87” x 90”) King (104” x 92”)

Hoping that the good people of r/bedding have some opinions regarding appropriate sizing given the size of the cover we have. Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

Someone who has only ever bought ✨Room Essentials✨ from Target

I would get the Queen size from Mommesilk since it'll be closer to the size requirements vs the King size, which is far too big regarding the width. Your brooklinen duvet cover likely will shrink an inch or two so the insert will perfectly fit or be just a tiny bit smaller length-wise which won't be too much of a hassle since it'll be still 'trapped' inside of the duvet cover length-wise. But, before purchasing I would strongly recommend you measure the width and length of your Brooklinen cover after washing it to make sure that it has, indeed, shrunk. If it has then Queen size will work best :) As for the Mommesilk all-season: I tend to not rec that one very often because it has a ton of silk fill in it and will be better for room temps that are closer to 60s-50F (I think they state as such on their website) and won't work as well for summer (it will be way too hot). If you want all-season for spring/fall temps then I'd definitely go with THXSilk or, if you want to have a very light summer weight+all-season weight combo then the ElleSilk combo looks pretty nice and would work best for hotter summer temps and for a really solid spring/fall insert when paired together :) If you want a really solid summer weight silk insert, though, Mommesilk's is pretty good for those temps, imo. Good luck and happy shopping! :)

Neither, one will be too short and the other too big. For a 90x90 cover you would want an insert between 90x90 - 92x92 for BEST fit. If I had to pick between the sizes though, I would pick the 87x90, but I wouldn’t be happy

So I've been on a quest to make my bed as comfortable as possible.. I bought a set of brook linen luxe sateen sheets + comforter, it came the other day.. slept on it a few nights now (i washed them once) .. The comforter is nice.. enjoying that. However the sheets, feel a little rough to me? They feel a bit dry and sort of rough.. its still nice in a lot of way but I was expecting more. The pillowcases too, I want my face to be on something thats super soft and slippery.. so I just ordered silk pillowcases. I feel like its not good for my face skin to be on a dry/slightly rough surface all night.

I want really nice SOFT almost slippery and COOL sheets as I tend to sleep a bit hot.. what are some good options? Maybe the brook linen sheets will get softer over time and more washes?

r/Bedding on Reddit: Recommendations to replace Brooklinen
April 2, 2024 -

I fell for their ads and splurged and have loved my sheets for just under one year. Took them out of the wash the other day and when making the bed noticed they are totally wearing through the middle of the fitted sheet, almost a hole. I emailed them and they were actually great and offered a full refund since the color is out of stock in queen. Problem is, I’m difficult, and my room matches perfectly. This is the color I neeeeeeeed. They have no idea if it will ever come back in stock or not, and told me to wait a little and see. But I most likely don’t want the same, because of this happening, especially at the price.

Any recommendations on high quality sheets in this terracotta/rust color would be so appreciated! Doesn’t have to be linen, I’m open to anything dreamy and soft and comfy.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Brooklinen is Crap and I should've Listened!
December 20, 2023 -

I should've heeded warnings on here about Brooklinen, but I wanted a pattern they had on their core sateen sheets for a hard to decorate room. I thought -- "how can it be that bad?" WRONG! This company and price point is a straight rip off! And I'm not even used to expensive sheets for comparison. I've been rocking the Kohls and Pottery Barn outlet sheets for years over here. I haven't had the Brooklinen for more than a few days so I can't speak to performance, but out of the box, they are THIN, not that soft, and the elastic on the edges is a JOKE. We are talking elastic that looks like it's worn out from years of use. It might as well not even be there. So for any of you who are wondering if Brooklinen is a good value for the quality, you are being ripped off. It's not. These sheets are not worth more than $50 for a queen set.

I actually love my Brooklinen sheets! I have the Luxe Sateen. They are so soft but weirdly cooling as well.

I do have to say, they took a while to break in. 6 or so washes. But isn’t that normal with nice sheets? And now they just keep getting softer.

I also had to reach out to their customer service once about a rip i had in my pillowcase and they were so nice about replacing it.

I get they aren’t the cheapest, but what’s with all the hate on this sub?

Was looking for honest reviews of the Brooklinen down alternative Comforter and duvet covers. I was looking at the light comforter because I live in SoCal and think the all season may be too hot, I do enjoy fluffier comforters though...

I was also wondering if anyone has tried the Tuft & Needle comforter? It is almost $100 cheaper and is oversized which seems very nice. wondering about build quality and fluffiness while not being overly hot

Anyone have a Brooklinen duvet that can give me an honest review? We getting a new comforter and I have it narrowed down to the Brooklinen all-season down duvet or the Feathered Friends Bavarian 700 in medium. I’m leaning towards Brooklinen because of the price.

I mostly just want to know how much feathers the duvet leaks and overall experience with it. Any insights or recommendations would be so appreciated!

Hey guys, brooklinen down comforter all season vs ultra warm. Let me know what you guys think. Also, brooklinen was rated top down by wire cutter and 2 different top 10 sites. It’s $360 on sale. My problem Is that it’s 85% Hutterite duck down and 15% Hutterite feathers compared to Quince 100% down. Quince luxe down looks legit but seems like most people love the brooklinen down. Quince luxe is $379 and the premium is $299.

Or if anyone has any other recommendations let me know .

Thank you!

r/Bedding on Reddit: Brooklinen Linen Duvet Cover Piling
April 22, 2024 -

Hey everyone! I recently purchased a Brooklinen duvet cover, specifically the “washed linen duvet cover” and have experienced excessive piling after one wash. I contacted them, and they sent me a replacement but that one also has pretty bad piling as well. It’s all over my floor and it makes me hesitant to even put the duvet insert inside the cover. I washed it on delicate with low tumble dry per their instructions on their website. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it go away after more washes? I’m so confused since I’ve never had this happen with any other duvet covers but I also have never had a linen one specifically. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Now I am trying to find a good duvet cover, do you all have recommendations? Budget is around 200-250, willing to spend a little more if the product is really great.

Brooklinen makes some great sets, but quite a lot are returned cuz of shrinkage or the fabric getting scratchy over time (major ick) For cotton-linen blends, I’d recommend California Design Den or Sijo. Parachute has a nice relaxed look but can be high maintenance and tends to wrinkle heavily. Coyuchi is solid if you want something organic, but their king sizes tend to run a bit snug after a few washes. I’ve seen the most consistent feedback on California Design Den (linking it cuz its a little nicher ig). Its super soft out of the package and holds up well, full shade to brooklinen. All three are reasonably priced and feel higher-end than some of the bigger brand offerings in the same bracket. They also tend to last longer before you see pilling or thread fray. For washing, I usually suggest cold water, gentle detergent, and low tumble dry or hang dry if possible. Avoid fabric softeners or bleach both mess with the finish. If you like a crisper look, toss in a dryer ball or two to soften without chemicals

I got my duvet cover from pottery barn https://www.potterybarn.com/shop/bedding/duvet-covers-shams/ I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, but at least everything from them seems to be good quality. I went with a 100% cotton one from the winter selection that went on clearance a while back and im pretty happy with it. [edit] they still have it, but not in the color that i bought it in. https://www.potterybarn.com/products/stewart-plaid-duvet-cover-shams-multi/ only white is left but not bad for 80$

I've been shopping around for a duvet cover and originally bought a cheapie 30$ one from walmart, I didn't like how scratchy it felt so I returned it and decided to splurge on a brooklinen duvet cover because I heard they were decently soft. The brooklinen duvet literally feels SCRATCHIER and flimsier than the 30$ walmart one, it has absolutely NO BUSINESS costing 150$. Feeling bamboozled! I'm returning it asap, my search for an actually soft duvet cover continues.
