r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: A Mostly Complete Review of Brooklinen Sheets
September 26, 2019 -

I am a hardcore reddit lurker and made this account to post this review. I have pretty much tried out most of Brooklinen's sheet sets (involuntarily) and due to the sparse amount of reliable reviews on their products, I wanted to share my experiences with people out there, like I once was, looking to buy from Brooklinen since most people wouldn't go through the trouble of buying and returning sheets 3 times. (Edit: 4 times now)

Preface : I decided I wanted to buy some high quality sheets about a year ago. I settled on wanting to buy sheets from Brooklinen because I wanted them to be OEKO-TEX certified and ethically produced. Also their marketing lol. When I was doing research, I felt like I couldn't find any solid reviews from actual people. There were sparse reddit reviews at the time and most of the articles on Brooklinen seemed like it was a paid sponsor.

This is how I ended up buying and returning several sets of Brooklinen sheets.

*All of the sheets were washed biweekly with cold water on delicate, with the Laundress detergent and fabric softener that Brooklinen is partnered with, and dried in a dryer on very low heat for literally like 2-3 hours. I used cashmere detergent for the Heathered Cashmere bundle so all of the sheets were properly taken care of during washing and drying.

Luxe Sateen Hardcore Bundle : This was the first set that I bought from them and I used them for about 3 months before I decided to return. I chose this one first mainly because it seemed to be the most popular out of all of their sheets so I assumed it was a safe pick. The material is really smooth and soft, with a slight sheen. The sheets aren't overly stiff and the texture is really nice on skin. Despite this, there are many design flaws with this set. On Brooklinen's site, they state "A longtime customer request—our buttons are bigger, easier to use, and less likely to come undone," in regards to their duvet cover. Their buttons are pretty huge, but guess what. The buttonholes are way too big. Every night, at least three of the buttons will have come undone. They feel loose and not secure. Sometimes I did sleep with the closure side oriented towards the bottom, the top, or the sides, but it honestly didn't matter. The buttons weren't even the problem at that point. The biggest problem I had was my duvet constantly trying to escape the duvet cover. I used the corner ties to secure the duvet and even started to double knot them after a while. The outside corners of the duvet cover would invert as the duvet insert started to shift outside the cover during the night like a prolapsed anus. AND because the closure doesn't stay closed, it will constantly shift out of the cover. (My duvet cover is not too big for the duvet. There isn't excess fabric from the cover hanging off once the duvet is placed inside.)

Heathered Cashmere Hardcore Bundle : This is hands down the worst set you could buy from Brooklinen. When I first got this set, I LOVED it. I spent close to $500 for this and I was not having buyers remorse, at least not yet. It was super soft and I loved how cozy these sheets made my bed feel. Unfortunately, that didn't last long. About two weeks in I started to notice some pilling. It was only slight so I wasn't too perturbed. These sheets had the same issue where the buttons were too small for the buttonholes and they were also constantly coming undone. With the Heathered Cashmere set, the duvet cover actually stayed put on the duvet. I think this was due to the fact that this set was more textured than the really smooth Luxe Sateen set, so even though the buttons kept coming undone, the duvet wasn't constantly spilling out each night. After about a month of owning these sheets, they started to pill like crazy. It was a ridiculous amount of pilling to the point where the fabric became scratchy on the skin. My legs were super itchy and at that point it was awful to sleep on, especially after I paid close to $500 for a "luxury" sheet set. Brooklinen recommends getting a cashmere stone to help with pilling, but this sheet set is just not worth it. Using a cashmere stone on an expensive sweater is fine, but having to brush several square feet of fabric with a small rock is kind-of ridiculous as the sheets only contain 5% cashmere. Not worth the money and time.

Linen Hardcore Bundle : Finally a decent sheet set. True to their namesake, Brooklinen's Linen sheet set is probably their best one and one I still have to this day. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE BUTTONS. The buttons are on the smaller side compared to their other sheet sets, but the buttonholes are actually small enough to be secure! What a surprise, right? Ngl never thought I'd be happy over buttons being the right size. The sheets are actually really soft and, true to legend, they actually do get softer with each wash. I've had the sheets for about 6 months now and haven't had any major issues with them. The sheets aren't slick smooth like the Luxe Sateen and have a bit of texture that the duvet stays put inside the insert. The texture is soft and fuzzy, but like a really light kind of fuzzy. Not in the sense that the fabric is fraying, but more like peach fuzz. The fabric is airy, but also really cozy. If I do get hot under the sheets, I kind-of just flap them once or twice and it dissipates the heat really quickly. One thing to note is that these sheets tend to shed a lot in the dryer. I've washed them a good couple of times now and it still shed a ton of lint in the dryer. I'm not sure if this is a huge concern because I know that linen does shed the first few times you wash it, but these sheets are still shedding after maybe like 4 wash and dry cycles now. Despite this, the sheets are still really good and I havent experienced any tearing or holes in the fabric.

Some Notes - Brooklinen has one of the best return policies out there so if you want to try out some of their sheet sets, go for it. You have a year to return them no questions asked and for all of you thinking that I'm taking advantage of the company's return policy, I'm not. I wanted to buy a nice sheet set not even intending to make this kind of review, and I just wasn't satisfied with the quality in accordance to the price I paid. I don't feel guilty for returning sheets after trying them out for a few months because any sheets that have been washed that are returned are donated to the homeless.

Part of the reason why I was so adamant in buying from Brooklinen is because of their ethical practices. If I needed to return sheets that have already been washed, I can find comfort knowing that some comfy sheets will be going to someone in need and also that I'm not supporting unethical factory practices. I know that completely cutting out mass produced products from a third world country factory with poor labor laws is unavoidable sometimes, but I still want to support businesses that are trying to do the right thing.

Overall, most of Brooklinen's sheets are comfy and the fabric is quality (except for the heathered cashmere, but it's a matter of perspective on that). They just have some design flaws that were deal-breakers for me, but might be different for you and the kind of duvet insert you have.

If you guys have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Edit: So it's been like a year now since I've written this post and I wanted to add a few thoughts to anyone that comes across this. Brooklinen is pretty shit. I had issues with all of the sheet types, even the one that I liked a.k.a the linen one. Also the linen sheet set ended getting returned. After MULTIPLE washes, they still shed like crazy and all over my clothes if I sat in bed for like 2 seconds. I definitely went through at least 3 rolls of lint roller tape during this period. I think all the problems their sheets had lowered my bar for acceptable quality so that by the time I bought the linen sheets, I was like this is great and has exceeded expectations.

I've been using cheap korean sheets that my mom bought me for the last year and I have had zero issues with any of them. Honestly they're so comfy and not sweaty, plus no lint and they're easy to wash. I have a cat now and she has torn a few holes in my sheets on accident because she's clumsy and has left a few butthole stains bc just cat things, but I don't feel too bad because I can easily wash/replace them without getting upset or contemplating my life decisions.

So yeah, Brooklinen is definitely not worth the money. They're not the worst, but do you really wanna spend hundreds on a sheet set that makes your life harder? Probably not.

Thank you to everyone who read through my long ass review post and made it this far. I am not a writer and I'm not the most articulate person around, but I hope this helped some of you.

I have no idea why people rave about this company. Worst sheets I've ever owned. The marketing department deserves major props. More on reddit.com

Why do people dislike Brooklinen?
The sheets were so disappointing. They never softened, became too stretched around the corners - so kept popping off the bed. When I washed them, they would feel like plastic. Absolutely nothing luxury about them. Went back to Boll and Branch and threw the Brooklinen away. More on reddit.com

I'd love to buy a nice linen bedsheet set. I was going to splurge on brooklinen but I see some comments here saying they suck and are overpriced, would you say that's true? And what do you think is a good alternative?
I fell for the Brooklinen hype. The sheets barely lasted a year before developing a huge tear. Would definitely not recommend. More on reddit.com

Bed Sheets Review: Brooklinen vs. Quince vs. Pact - Welcome Objects
April 21, 2023 - Over a year ago, I wound up buying Brooklinen’s percale starter/no flat set in cream. They are definitely the coolest, most comfortable sheets on my Saatva classic luxury firm. Their pillowcases are definitely no frills, but they work well.

Brooklinen Sheets Review—Are They Worth It? (2025) - The Good Trade
June 16, 2025 - They say, “You made your bed; now lie in it.” But I don’t, because my bed is not cozy. It’s not a spot for lounging, luxuriating, or retreat. It’s solely utilitarian…that is, until I had the chance to try Brooklinen’s Luxe Sateen bedding, Canadian Down Comforter, and Marlow pillows.

r/Bedding on Reddit: Brooklinen is Crap and I should've Listened!
December 20, 2023 -

I should've heeded warnings on here about Brooklinen, but I wanted a pattern they had on their core sateen sheets for a hard to decorate room. I thought -- "how can it be that bad?" WRONG! This company and price point is a straight rip off! And I'm not even used to expensive sheets for comparison. I've been rocking the Kohls and Pottery Barn outlet sheets for years over here. I haven't had the Brooklinen for more than a few days so I can't speak to performance, but out of the box, they are THIN, not that soft, and the elastic on the edges is a JOKE. We are talking elastic that looks like it's worn out from years of use. It might as well not even be there. So for any of you who are wondering if Brooklinen is a good value for the quality, you are being ripped off. It's not. These sheets are not worth more than $50 for a queen set.

Brooklinen Reviews: We Tested Their Best-Selling Bedding - PureWow
September 28, 2021 - Brooklinen’s best-selling sateen sheets are designed with 480-thread-count, long-staple cotton for a ‘buttery smooth finish,’ according to the manufacturer. The set includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet and two pillowcases and features a slightly luminous finish for a truly luxurious feel. However, as we mentioned above, silk and sateen materials are supposed to be great for your hair and skin, but there were several mixed reviews about this set’s breathability.
