r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Brooklinen towels Super-Plush Turkish Towels 6-Month Review
May 27, 2025 -

I bought a set and a half of towels from Brooklinen back in December, and I’ve been really disappointed with the quality. Despite taking excellent care of them, washing only on the delicate cycle and drying on a low, no-heat tumble setting, they’ve completely deteriorated in just a few months. The fabric has thinned out and lost its softness, which is shocking given how gently I’ve treated them.

I expected a lot more based on the glowing reviews and how the brand markets their products as premium. These towels have worn out faster than much cheaper ones I’ve owned for years.

For the price I paid, I really expected better durability and customer support. It’s been a frustrating experience overall, and I wouldn’t recommend these towels based on what I’ve gone through.

They feel amazing for the first few weeks // 2- 6 washes but they turn into standard towels quickly.

I've reached out to get the defective wash clothes replaced but they won't exchange these no longer plush towels.

Does anyone have any better recommendations? Should I start Dry cleaning Large towels to keep them soft?

I know they’re not technically bedding but I’m hoping you all can help! I bought Brooklinen towel sheets and in a take as old as time they got all snagged after about a year and look like garbage now.

I love a big towel but I’m on a tight budget now and overwhelmed by all the choices! Does anyone have budget towels they like?

I’m looking to replace old and falling apart towels. I don’t mind spending extra if it means better quality & durability. I’m currently looking at FrontGate, Brooklinen & PotteryBarn. Does anyone have any experience with these more expensive brands? Are they comparable to something cheaper likes Sams Club Hotel collection or are they really a step above?

Peshtemal towels, also known as hammam towels. Once people go with peshtemal towels there's no looking back. You know how people like to talk about how their fancy bidet changed their life and now they can't imagine going back? It's like that. We are brutally hard on our towels. We live on the beach in the middle of nowhere in Mexico. Our running water is too minerally to drink and we're forever in the sea and sand, plus they dry in salt air. We were burning through expensive high quality ringspun Egyptian cotton towels in less than a year. Then after a trip to Morocco, where hammams/Turkish baths are a part of life, we realized we couldn't go back to anything but hammam towels. First of all, they're not trying to get cute. They're a flat weave cotton, not ringspun. They dry fast, wash easily, don't snag, pill, hold onto hair or bits of dead skin and they don't pull. And when/if a section gets damaged, they're easy to repair. I've only actually had to mend one, and it's 6+ years old. Sure, big pillowy stacks of white fluffy towels look great. But is that a towel's job? They take forever to dry, shed in the wash, and are susceptible to pulls and snags. Then when they do get a bare patch or a snag, they're hard to mend. And if you're washing them hard enough to get out all the little dead skin tacos from deep inside the towel, you're washing them so hard they'll wear out anyway. I love a toweling robe made with ringspun cotton. But for actual towels, it's flat woven peshtemals all the way.

Brooklinen has REALLY went downhill as of late. The sheets especially have not been lasting nowhere near what they used to, and they are more so an influencer brand than a brand making good products. We love the Red Land Cotton towels and my wife insists on taking them with us on trips. Lol

My towels are close to a decade old, and despite my best efforts, they’re slowly but surely developing Towel Stink (iykyk, humidity is a bitch [tasteless]). I’d love to find new ones that are plush and comfy but preferably not more than like $35-40 for a big bath towel (I’m open to being told I’m delirious over the price point, my towels are from my wedding and the economy was different in 2016). Trying to research now and maybe catch some 4th of July sales. Thanks! 😘

December 5, 2022 - I have been really happy with Turkish Towels. They are not plush so that is a deal breaker for some people. They are soft, fold nicely and take up very little space, and they dry quickly. They get the job done! ... Came here to say the same thing. Brooklinen have ruined regular towels for me.

I should've heeded warnings on here about Brooklinen, but I wanted a pattern they had on their core sateen sheets for a hard to decorate room. I thought -- "how can it be that bad?" WRONG! This company and price point is a straight rip off! And I'm not even used to expensive sheets for comparison. I've been rocking the Kohls and Pottery Barn outlet sheets for years over here. I haven't had the Brooklinen for more than a few days so I can't speak to performance, but out of the box, they are THIN, not that soft, and the elastic on the edges is a JOKE. We are talking elastic that looks like it's worn out from years of use. It might as well not even be there. So for any of you who are wondering if Brooklinen is a good value for the quality, you are being ripped off. It's not. These sheets are not worth more than $50 for a queen set.

I previously made a post here asking for input on some comforter, sheet sets, pillows, and towels I was considering for a new place. I spent a truly concerning amount of time researching technical specs and reading reviews, and finally ordered all of the pieces. Now that they've come I wanted to share what I bought and my first-impressions (all positive so far!) so that hopefully others can avoid the crazy amount of research I did. I would hope that this goes without saying but to anticipate the flood of comments I've generally received when offering a positive review, no, I wasn't offered a free products or an incentive for this review. I paid for all of these items and get nothing other than Reddit Karma for reviewing.

I decided to buy some bamboo sheets here. The sense I got was that while higher quality cotton sheets are better than higher quality bamboo sheets, cheaper bamboo can have similar softness and durability to mid- to high-end cotton. Received them and feel great about the choice. Super soft, surprisingly breathable, and have held up great without pilling through the first wash. Went to a couple shops in the mall and felt bamboo sheet sets than ran over $150 and these felt substantially softer and more breathable. Can update later on for durability.

For towels and duvet covers, I opted to go with Brooklinen. I was rather apprehensive about doing so because I don't particularly like the company for their over-advertising and apparent review manipulation. The product, however, was great. For the duvet cover, I went mostly based off reviews from The Wirecutter which put theirs at the top of the list. I went with the lux option which was only around $10 more and it gave what previously felt like a relatively flat down comforter a very cloud-like feel because of how soft and breathable it was. I tried out the LL Bean duvet cover in-store and Brooklinen's turned out to be substantially softer and has better stitching. For towels, I was initially planning on going with Frontgate, as they topped the Wirecutter's list, but their bath sheets were a bit more money than I wanted to spend and the offsite reviews for Brooklinen's towels seemed comparable. I split the order into multiple smaller orders that were just above $50 so I could use the $25 of $50 referral code multiple times which made them fairly reasonably priced. These are probably my favorite of all of the items I purchased. Softer and more plush than any hotel towel I've ever used, super absorbent, and didn't seem to get very wet so the plushness wasn't an issue for drying. I don't know that they're better than Frontgate since I wasn't able to try them, but the coupon plus free-shipping makes the Brooklinen ones noticeably cheaper. The referral link I used which I found on some other Reddit comment (not mine) is here.

I once again trusted The Wirecutter for pillows and went with the Parachute standard soft down pillow. I went with the soft option because I'm a stomach sleeper and it's incredible. Stays super cool during the night, compresses enough that my back isn't at a weird angle, and the seems look much stronger so I feel more confident about these not leaking feathers. At $60, it's uncharacteristically cheap for down pillows given Parachute's usually higher prices. I would definitely recommend this for any other stomach sleepers, though if you need a firmer pillow for other sleeping positions they do get more expensive pretty fast.

I also decided to buy a down comforter from Pacific Coast, which is the supplier for the Costco comforter that is now sold out which was the Wirecutter's top budget pick. Shipping on this one is a bit slower so I can't yet offer feedback but I'll be sure to update with more info once it arrives.

Hope this info is helpful, happy to answer any questions

April 2, 2024 -

I fell for their ads and splurged and have loved my sheets for just under one year. Took them out of the wash the other day and when making the bed noticed they are totally wearing through the middle of the fitted sheet, almost a hole. I emailed them and they were actually great and offered a full refund since the color is out of stock in queen. Problem is, I’m difficult, and my room matches perfectly. This is the color I neeeeeeeed. They have no idea if it will ever come back in stock or not, and told me to wait a little and see. But I most likely don’t want the same, because of this happening, especially at the price.

Any recommendations on high quality sheets in this terracotta/rust color would be so appreciated! Doesn’t have to be linen, I’m open to anything dreamy and soft and comfy.

Hi folks, I’m looking for recommendations on towel brands that are durable and good quality. I’ve seen the past threads recommending bath sheets; however, I can’t seem to find a consistent brand that is shared. I’m hoping to purchase a complete set with bath sheets, hand towels, and face towels.

Anyone purchase any from Amazon that were worth it?/any other brand

Thanks!

Obviously not for life but if any group knows quality its you guys. Is there a hands down winner in terms of towels (bath) and/or bed sheets? I bought sheets from Brooklinen and thought they were ok but not worth the premium. And towels are difficult without feeling them.

So I've been on a quest to make my bed as comfortable as possible.. I bought a set of brook linen luxe sateen sheets + comforter, it came the other day.. slept on it a few nights now (i washed them once) .. The comforter is nice.. enjoying that. However the sheets, feel a little rough to me? They feel a bit dry and sort of rough.. its still nice in a lot of way but I was expecting more. The pillowcases too, I want my face to be on something thats super soft and slippery.. so I just ordered silk pillowcases. I feel like its not good for my face skin to be on a dry/slightly rough surface all night.

I want really nice SOFT almost slippery and COOL sheets as I tend to sleep a bit hot.. what are some good options? Maybe the brook linen sheets will get softer over time and more washes?

We should've looked at the posts here first. But we bought a new set of sheets and a duvet cover. We received yesterday, washed it today, put them on the bed.

  1. Duvet cover was a queen size. Did not come close to covering our queen size bed.

  2. Pillow cover ripped on first use while putting a pillow inside it.

  3. Overall shoddy, paper-thin material.

We usually get LL Bean for bedding but decided to save a few bucks. "Cheap is expensive" as the saying goes.

r/workingmoms on Reddit: Embarrassed about my Linens

Specifically, my bathroom towels and need recommendations on good, quality towels.

This sounds so stupid, because I could afford to spend plenty on a full cupboard of pricy linens, but, I can't bring myself to spend more than a few dollars each towel without a solid referral so I have all threadbare and worn out towels because I don't want to pony up and be disappointed. I've looked at online reviews, I've read good housekeeping "seal of approval," but I'm stuck for a couple of reasons.

This isn't like I have a couple towels saved for dying my hair or chores, this is a situation where every towel I own has been cut down because it started to unravel or ripped or something.

For context, I spent most of my adult life supporting my family of 4 on anything from 10/hr to 40k a year in Los Angeles and after finishing school with 2 kiddos and working my butt off, make 6 figures now. I have such a hard time getting my head out of the "I'm too poor to buy nice things" and "I can't afford that, the towels still work, they just look like shit" mentality and then add a healthy dose of "I don't deserve nice things" and I'm paralyzed.

But I seriously would be embarrassed to have anyone see my bath towels (I have plenty of holiday hand towels.) I don't really have guests stay overnight anyway because my adult son, 14yo, husband and I share a small 2bdrm, 850sqft home (converted the dining area into a 3rd bedroom.)

November 21, 2023 -

I decided to give Brooklinen a try this last month, and boy can I say I should have heeded the warnings of the other users.

The sateen sheets were thin, I could see the boxes of my mattress topper. When I buy sateen sheets I’m looking for heft and the slip feeling and these felt more like percale and low quality percale at that. Lastly, I didn’t see any comments about this, but the stitching was off. The pillowcases were not rectangles, but more like two rhombus’ sown together. It wouldn’t lie flat in my pillows.the fitted sheets had similar problems.

In the past I’ve purchased from Costco and target’s threshold and I feel like those are better buys in terms of quality and cost.
