Looking for a printer for home use, I’ve narrowed it down to the Brother MFC-L3780CDW or MFC-L3720CDW. I’m not so worried about speed, I’m just sick of ink drying up before I even get to use it and want to switch to laser printer. The only difference I can tell that matters to me is the 3780 has an Ethernet but the 3720 does not. I’ll mostly print from my phone and work laptop so using wifi. Will I regret not having the Ethernet connection? $100 difference in price is making me question whether I really need the cable but scared to commit to no cable. TYIA!
Bought a laser printer from them that crapped out about a month into it. Their customer service has been the shittier than HP's. Just want to say that because everyone here seems to f-ing love them.
It was a Brother MFC-L3720CDW which was not cheap. I bought it for my boss' house and his wife was pissed at the cost tag. So you can imagine how pissed she is with me now that it isn't working and their customer service gives me the ring around.
Edit: I love hearing that most people here have had better experiences. I bought it for my boss because he asked me to and he would come in to the office at all hours to print so I wanted to help him, and bought this printer hoping it could be a workforce for his needs. His wife is involved solely because she thought it was overpriced so asked me why I didn’t buy a cheaper HP printer, so I explained longevity, quality, and cheaper long term costs of toner vs ink.

I’m looking to buy either of these. I can’t tell the difference between these except that the 720 has 19ppm and 765 has 27ppm. I also want 2-sided duplex scanning. Which one of these have that? If you were me which one would you get?

Great News! Brother just released NEW home use laser this week Oct 3, 2023!. Here is press release https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/brother-unveils-lineup-of-new-and-refreshed-digital-color-and-monochrome-laser-printers-and-all-in-ones-for-small-to-large-businesses-built-for-the-way-work-now-works-301945831.html
The new models are:
HL-L8245CDW 256MBRAM (31ppm)
HL-L3280CDW 256MB RAM (27ppm)
HL-L3295CDW 512MB RAM (31ppm)
HL-L3300CDW 512RAM (19PPM)
HL-L6210DW Mono 256MB RAM (50ppm)
The following are MFC (Multi-function printers ALL-IN-ONE)
MFCL3765CDW (512MB Ram) 27PPM
MFCL3720CDW (512MB Ram) 19PPM
MFCL3780CDW (512MB RAM) 31PPM
MFCL3720CDW (512MB RAM) 19PPM
MFCL8395CDW (512MB RAM 31PPM
I plan to purchase the HL-3295CDW since they have more memory 512RAM! and a USB slot for printing photos directly. But I need to read reviews first. If anyone has purchase one of the above machine I would appreciate if there are any reviews. I currently have an HP CP2020N printer but it old. I bought it 2009. It always has paper jams and if I replace the fuser it cost as much as a new printer so I will buy a new printer. I never tried Brother Color LED printers before so I want to purchase a Brother printer.
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the Brother MFC-L3780CDW?
I see the Brother MFC-L3770 recommended a lot on this sub but it looks like maybe that printer is on its way out replaced by the MFC-L3780.
Looking at the specs I don't see any functional differences that would matter to me. The 3780 seems to come with slightly higher capacity cartridges and slightly faster print speed in a slightly smaller design.
I'm assumed the quality of the 3780 is pretty much going to be the same as the 3770. Seems like options would be a refurbished 3770 for $400 or a new 3780 for $500.
I'm just checking if anyone has any thoughts or experience on this new printer from Brother?
Edit: MFC-L3780CDW 1 year update - Haven't experienced any problems with printing, scanning, copying, or connection; still on the factory toner. This is what the unit is reporting in the maintenance page:
Pages printed: 322 Color / 109 B&W / 431 Total
Toner Life Remaining: 70% Color / 80% Black
Drum, Fuser, Belt, and Feeding Kit Life Remaining: 98%-100%
I'm considering purchasing this printer, but I'm just afraid that it'll turn out to be not as easy to use as the last printer I bought, which the main problem was that I could not get it to scan and send it to my email. Link
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had problems with using it, or at least not meeting up to your expectations, as the reviews I've seen do not really address my questions.
Thank you.
I purchased this printer less than 2 months ago. It will not accept third-party toner unknown to me when I purchased it. The toner cartridges cost just about as much as the printer cost. And others have said the toner is used up very quickly. So I will probably purchase another printer and give this one to charity. Total waste of money.
Here is my question: any suggestions on what to purchase, a color laser printer that does accept third-party cartridges? I don't want to make the same stupid mistake. I have had Brother printers for over 40 years so this was a big surprise to me that Brother has done something to its machines to prevent us from using toner other than theirs. I would appreciate any suggestions!
What would you like to accomplish?
My goal is to have a reliable printer that will last at least 5 years. I currently have an HP 9018e that is less than a year old and it will not stay connected to my LAN. I have tried everything and their support has been quite unhelpful.

I would like to avoid any subscriptions. I also heard that newer brothers force you to change the Toner even if there is toner left.

So it's slow but that's ok. What I don't get is why I can't print greyscale without color cartridges. I've used the xl black toner and have done maybe 1k pages and it's almost empty and the color is almost half gone though I just installed them today and haven't even used them. Bought this printer because I thought I'd be saving on ink. Is there some third party firmware I can flash to fix this junk?
Hello!
I'm about to purchase a Brother printer HL-L3270CDW. I was reading online that this Brother printer only accepts their own genuine and extremely overpriced cartridges. They do this by putting in chips and resistors that are either patented or secret, so as not to allow generic companies to produce supplies. I wanted to ask the community's experience with this Brother printer specifically... as I want to be able to purchase generic cartridges. If this printer does not accept generic cartridges and drums... what laser color printer would you recommend that accepts generic ink? I'd appreciate any information that allows me to get a decent laser color printer, while being able to purchase generic cartridges. Thank you!
I see a monochrome one is $200 (brother)
and the color one is $399 for a similar model (scanning, copying, etc.)
