Brother Color Laser Printer MFC-L3720CDW Problems
I just tried installing a brand new Brother MFC-L3780CDW all in one laser printer and I ran the EasySetup_2_7_0_5.exe software. Computer OS is Windows 10 64 bit with all OS updates. I have the printer connected through a USB cable and I have the WiFi setup. Of course I'm running into problems! Printers have always given me problems but after a 5 year hiatus I thought I'd try again.
In the Brother iPrint&Scan software the printer shows up under Network and is selected but the Print icon has a yellow exclamation mark error and when I click on it, I get a Printer Driver Required error.
It also shows up under USB but when I try to select it, I get an error that the driver setup is required and to install the driver. I want the USB as a backup option if the WiFi is down.
Any idea why it says the driver is missing when I just did the driver install?
I purchased this printer less than 2 months ago. It will not accept third-party toner unknown to me when I purchased it. The toner cartridges cost just about as much as the printer cost. And others have said the toner is used up very quickly. So I will probably purchase another printer and give this one to charity. Total waste of money.
Here is my question: any suggestions on what to purchase, a color laser printer that does accept third-party cartridges? I don't want to make the same stupid mistake. I have had Brother printers for over 40 years so this was a big surprise to me that Brother has done something to its machines to prevent us from using toner other than theirs. I would appreciate any suggestions!
Looking for a printer for home use, I’ve narrowed it down to the Brother MFC-L3780CDW or MFC-L3720CDW. I’m not so worried about speed, I’m just sick of ink drying up before I even get to use it and want to switch to laser printer. The only difference I can tell that matters to me is the 3780 has an Ethernet but the 3720 does not. I’ll mostly print from my phone and work laptop so using wifi. Will I regret not having the Ethernet connection? $100 difference in price is making me question whether I really need the cable but scared to commit to no cable. TYIA!
I can print from the PC to the printer, the printer updated its firmware successfully and I'm now scanning from the printer Dropbox but I can't connect the printer from the PC for scanning. It just says Offline. I'm not a noob, I promise.
Edit 1: It printed what was already sent to the printer before restart. It's still able to scan and send to DropBox

Restarted, reset (factory), set static IP on the router.
Their software is okay but a bit weird. It tries to fix the network but.... it fails miserably.
