I just tried installing a brand new Brother MFC-L3780CDW all in one laser printer and I ran the EasySetup_2_7_0_5.exe software. Computer OS is Windows 10 64 bit with all OS updates. I have the printer connected through a USB cable and I have the WiFi setup. Of course I'm running into problems! Printers have always given me problems but after a 5 year hiatus I thought I'd try again.
In the Brother iPrint&Scan software the printer shows up under Network and is selected but the Print icon has a yellow exclamation mark error and when I click on it, I get a Printer Driver Required error.
It also shows up under USB but when I try to select it, I get an error that the driver setup is required and to install the driver. I want the USB as a backup option if the WiFi is down.
Any idea why it says the driver is missing when I just did the driver install?
What's going on?
based upon recommendations on reddit, we replaced our inkjet with a laser from brother. just arrived...and it only works with win10 or 11?! we're still on 7 and have no wish to 'upgrade' (with a clusterfuck). does anyone know a workaround, so this printer works on win7? thanks!

Hi Joe Berg,
There is no Windows 7 driver download available for Brother MFC 5840CN on Nrother support website. However, you might get the driver updates through Windows Updates as per the following Brother Support website link: http://www.brother-usa.com/lp/windows7compatibility.aspx
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly
If the drivers are not available through Windows Updates then, I would suggest you to download the Windows Vista drivers from Brother’s Support websites and install it in Windows Vista compatibility mode and check if it helps.

Make older programs run in this version of Windows
****Hope this helps.

Mine works fine using the Vista driver. Have you tried that?
Your port settings are likely an issue or you have another network-related issue. The printer should have an IP address. If you have it set to auto, you might consider setting it to a static rather than relying on the Brother software to auto sense the printer. Even if you do not do this, you should be able to ping its current address which should be available from the printer's console. If you cannot do this you will need to look into your network/firewall connectivity issue. If you can do this then you know the problem computer can communicate over the network to it. Try creating a new network port carrying the current IP address (why I recommend a static so it does not change) and running through the wizard to manually create a new printer instance using the second method.
If the address is 192.168.1.50.
To add and clarify:
If I go via WIN+r and "printui /s /t2" into Print Server Properties and the "Drivers" tab, I can select "Add..." there.
In the Add Printer Driver Wizard that comes up there are no Brother printers listed. When I press "Windows Update" it takes a few minutes and then I get a much longer list of printer manufactures and many models, but my model Brother MFC-L3770CDW is still strangely omitted from that list, so I can't select a driver for it.
When I do the exact same from my laptop that runs on Windows 10 2004 (instead of my PC on Windows 10 20H2) already the automatic menu shows my printer model as an option. And logically from that laptop I can print without issues.
I really need to get this fixed on the PC, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
