February 11, 2024What do you guys think of this budget 2" x 42" belt sander?
I have a bucktool 1x42 that I’m really impressed with, very well built, sturdy, and quiet. I went with the 1x42 because it has a low and high speed which I prefer as a beginner( more control of material removal and less heat), and it has an 8” disc sander. It would be nice to have 2x the surface area on the belt though. I’d say if you are ok with the speed of the belt and can get some use out out of the bench grinder go for it, I’m sure it will last a long time and is well built. More on reddit.com

What do you intend to use a belt sander for, exactly? If you're just starting out then I'd recommend a middle of the road, DeWalt for example, 5" random orbit. Not a big cost of entry, not much of a footprint for storage. Get some decent sanding disks. As a beginner I wouldn't get harbor freight junk, but also wouldn't splurge for mirka or cubitron. Dura-gold brand can be found on Amazon and it's a solid budget option. I'd recommend avoiding tabletop bandsaws. Get a freestanding one. More on reddit.com

Have you seen the new grizzly 2x42? I thought about going this route as well because of the price range, but now I'm 100% getting the grizzly for my first grinder. I think it's around $315, maybe a little more shipped to your door and check out some YouTube vids on it because people are already making attachments fairly easy. More on reddit.com

Does someone know if there's a difference between the BD4801 & BD4801-M?? I know the '-M' stands for metal... but the price difference is not only the kind of belt no? And what would stop me to mount a wood-belt on it??
