I recently took a new job which is fully remote. I have a pretty good setup, except for the chair which is obviously an important consideration since I'll be sitting at my workstation for most of the day. I generally try to avoid some used furniture for sanitary (or just ocd) reasons, but good office chairs seem to be pretty pricey.
Does anybody have any suggestions for a good comfortable chair in the sub-200$ range? Should I up my budget to get a better value in the long run? Something I can be healthy and comfortable in all day is an absolute must. Features like tilt setting, high back, head rest etc.. would be nice but at the moment my budget is the primary concern.
UPDATE: Tons of good suggestions here guys, working my way through them.. thanks!!
What the title says, I'll be sitting on that chair for +8 hours on average. Pls dont say "Buy an HM or steelcase, its only 1000 dollars" I live in mexico and the cheapest HM is worth more than my monthly salary.
Hey all, Ahnestly here! I review chairs on YouTube and after collecting comments from my community mixed w/ my own personal opinion, I create an annual ultimate chair buying guide video for every budget and height (currently has a 99.3% like ratio, which is insane!). The mods have allowed me to link the video below, but it is NOT mandatory to watch. I'll list out the chairs first and link will be at the bottom for anyone who cares to watch that.
Preliminary notes: People wonder why companies don't make chairs for really short or really tall people. I wish I could show you guys my video's analytics...the vast majority of time watched occurs in the average height section. These companies are out here to make a profit, and sometimes that means targeting the majority, not the minority. Please keep that in mind as you will see a lot of overlap with these chairs.

A 300-350 dollar budget will give you more liberty to choose a comfortable office chair. There are more nice options compared to a meager 100 or 200-dollar unit.
But the ones that offer a lot of ergo features, and these must work for the chair and complement the other parts of the unit.
Best office chairs within $350 - Recommendations for Redditors
⭐ SIHOO Doro C300
⭐ Branch Daily Chair
⭐ HON Crio
⭐ Nochaus Ergo3dL
⭐ Molents Office Chair
⭐ La-Z-Boy Sutherland Quilted
⭐ Oline ErgoPro
⭐ Branch task chair
⭐ Modway Jive Ribbed
Our buying guide outlines the more important factors that you should consider for your 350-dollar budget.
You may not be able to get a unit that feels sublime on your lower back, but it can be decent enough to use for more than 5 hours.
And here are some of the ergo features that you should prioritize
Seat height and depth
You now will be able to find a unit that can go high enough if you are 6 feet tall. But you also have to consider the seat depth or if the seat pan can be adjusted. Not all 300-dollar chairs that can go high enough will allow for ample clearance for those with longer legs. So you have to watch out for this.
Lumbar support
Either fixed or adjustable, you may still be able to find a unit that will be comfortable for long hours of work.
And if you need more customized back support, there are 300-dollar chairs that offer both adjustable height and depth.
Overall comfort
If the chair is made of. mesh material, make sure that it isn’t too rigid. Though you cannot expect a very intuitive mesh chair for this budget, you can’t find one that is sufficient enough, so do not settle for a very rough mesh thinking that you have no options here.
And if it’s a padded chair, the padding is not too firm. Does it offer enough support?
Unlike 200 or 100-dollar chairs where a mesh one is the safer choice, you can enjoy a padded chair and still get enough support.
Durability
It may not be an expensive chair, but you are still looking at something that can last about three to five years.
As such, you must refrain from buying ones that have more plastic parts and feel squeaky when you first sit on them.
You should also pay attention to how durable the material of the chair is including caster wheels and the backrest. You will be able to see more insights on legit reviews.
Lately I've been spending a lot of time on my chair and my back is starting to feel it. So I was wondering if there are any office chair around 200€ that are actually worth it. Or should I keep using cheap ones until I can afford a higher quality one.
I feel like chairs are SO expensive these days and I do not want to make the mistake of buying the wrong one.
I went to a local office supply store and tried to sit in all of the chairs they had on display and they were either felt cheap and were uncomfortable for $400 or they were decently comfortable and felt well made for $600.
I just could not justify it. Are there any popular recommendations that are a little more affordable?
Thanks for any help.
Looking to finally get a good office chair. I find $1000 a lot despite them being long lasting and worth it. Looking for something that is highly adjustable with the arm rests.
Hey!
I'm so confused to find solid and comfortable office chair under 200$. My back totally break just need something comfortable office chair for long hours that won't wreck my back😭😢... I have seen many brands but reviews are mix. If i end buying the wrong chair my back will still be uncomfortable and i won't be able to work properly. Please tell me what i should do.
Thank😢
Hello, don't know if this is the right sub to ask this but I'm looking for an affordable and possibly economic office chair that I can sit cross-legged in. I can find lots of options online but want to ask others who might have bought one that they really recommend. I'm a female (162 cm height).
Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a new chair, either a gaming chair or an ergonomic office chair. I sit for over 8 hours daily for remote work and evening gaming sessions.
Are there any summer sales or good chair recommendations right now?
My current chair's seat cushion and surface are worn out, causing discomfort after long sitting sessions. I've also noticed it lacks proper body support. The middle cushion pushes me forward, preventing me from sitting naturally straight against the backrest.
I'm looking for a chair, whether gaming or office style, that's comfortable and promotes good posture. I've seen many streamers using AndaSeat Kaiser 4 chairs and heard they're excellent, though they are pricier. I don't have a strict budget since I plan to use this chair for many years.
Should I consider buying new or check the secondhand market? There are so many options out there. Any reliable recommendations?
Spending 8+ hours a day at your desk can be brutal on your back, and let’s be honest—not all chairs are built for long-term comfort. Some people swear by high-end ergonomic office chairs, while others say a good budget option can get the job done just as well.
Ergonomic chairs do make a difference, but are they really worth the price? Some high-end chairs cost over $1000, while there are plenty of mid-range options that claim to offer similar support.
Here are some of the best office chairs I’ve found for long hours of sitting:
Premium chairs ($800+)
Herman Miller Aeron – PostureFit SL lumbar support, Pellicle mesh, ergonomic recline
Steelcase Leap – LiveBack technology, fully adjustable for posture support
Humanscale Freedom Chair – Self-adjusting recline, synchronized armrests, solid frame
Mid-range chairs ($500-$800)
Autonomous ErgoChair Ultra 2 – 4-layer fusion seat, adaptive backrest, invisible lumbar support
Nouhaus Ergo3D – 3D lumbar support, adjustable armrests & headrest, breathable mesh
Eurotech Vera Mesh – Plush seat cushion, breathable mesh, 4D armrests
Budget-friendly picks (Under $300-$500)
Autonomous ErgoChair Pro – Adjustable backrest, seat tilt, flexible lumbar support, breathable mesh
X-Chair X2 – 4-way adjustable arms, dynamic lumbar support, tilt positions
Branch Ergonomic Chair - 8 points of adjustment, firm lumbar support, breathable mesh, sleek design
I know gaming chairs get a lot of criticism for long-term use, but I’ve seen some people swear by them. Others say mesh chairs are the way to go, while some prefer foam cushioning for all-day comfort.
If you’ve been using a chair for long hours, what’s worked best for you? Are high-end chairs really worth it, or is there a solid mid-range or budget option that gets the job done?
I’m sure this has been asked several times but here I go anyways.
I’m 6’4” and 290-300 pounds, I’m looking for a reliable chair or at least brand to look at at a reasonable price. I can’t afford to throw money at a Herman-Miller or anything like that at the moment, I’m just looking for something on the cheaper end ($250) to get myself going in the right direction, as I still have a clapped out “gamer chair” I had in college. Amazon is flooded with goofy brands and sketchy looking chairs, so I figured I’d come to the experts. Thanks
As I plan to build myself a new PC rig and a new Desk-Chair setups, I am literally in confusing shambles on whether I should buy a chair under 5k pesos or one that is better but much expensive than the entirety of my planned System Unit build. Is cheaping out on this one a bad idea, or do I have to go even higher?
Moving into a new apartment and need recommendations on the best (new) chair I can get under $500
I spend long hours gaming and working. I'm 25, 6'2, 185lbs. I'm also looking for a new chair, not something refurbished or second-hand.
Not an expert on chairs, but something comfortable and good for my long-term health would be appreciated!
I am looking for an office chair under 200sgd and I want to go and try them out first, as I have heard each person/body type has different chairs that suits them. For reference I am about 5ft 10’ and I was wondering if there are any brand recommendations and places to try them at? Does Singapore have like a general place I can go try different brands or do I go to each brand’s showroom and try them? Thank you
been hunting for an affordable office chair that doesn’t wreck my posture after a few hours of work from home
I’ve gone through way too many cheap ones that either sink after a month or have zero lumbar support.
after some digging, here are a few options that look solid:
- SIHOO Doro C300: Breathable mesh, adjustable lumbar
- Autonomous ErgoChair X: Dual backrest design that follows your spine’s S-curve and PU leather cushioning
- FlexiSpot C7: Minimal look, good for small spaces
- Hbada E3: Budget-friendly, decent if you don’t sit all day, around $400
- IKEA Markus: Classic option, firm back support but not very adjustable
right now, I’m leaning towards the ErgoChair X mainly because of the early bird pricing and the design looks pretty sleek and functional. But since it’s a newer model, I’m a bit hesitant. Has anyone here tried it yet? Always be here to hear your feedback before I pull the trigger
I had a Vivo office chair for a while but after a few months it started to squeak, the back support was pretty much non existent and I ended up with a stiff lower back after just a few hours of sitting.
EDIT: Ended up choosing this office chair, used it as soon as I got it built and its been fantastic!
It got to the point where the mesh back started sagging, and I felt like I was sitting in a hammock.
I’ve got a budget of around $175, maybe stretching to $225 if it’s really worth it.
I’ve been looking at Secretlab and Hbada. The Secretlab ones seem to get solid reviews for comfort, but the price is a little steep for me unless there’s a good deal out there. The Hbada chairs seem like they might be a good balance — not super cheap, but not as expensive as the big brands either.
Just wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with either of these or has other recommendations that fit the budget but still offer decent comfort and support. I sit for long hours, especially since after finishing work for the day, I often spend a few more hours gaming, so I need something that’ll keep my posture in check.
I know the general consensus is to steer clear of any chairs labelled 'gaming'.😂
Appreciate any advice
I tried searching in this subreddit but most of recommendations are above 5k.
I bought one from there a bit ago and it wasn't that comfortable
