Basically I am buying Helix 4 step polishing pads, and I only have an angle grinder with a fixed speed. What tool do I need to attach the pads to? I would prefer not to spend a $500 on a tool that I will use only once most likely. I am polishing half a shower area, so roughly 40 square feet.

Fixed speed angle grinders suck you want to be able to turn your speed down when face polishing. Get a 4-1/2 or 5" VARIABLE SPEED Makita angle grinder they're like 220. Also good brands include a Bosch and metabo. Flex is ok. You want one of these for face polishing. This is what you were asking for I believe https://www.bbindustriesllc.com/alpha-rigid-backer-pad-4.html Or any brand on that website that's "Ridgid" not flexible you want your backer pad to be flat when face polishing. You should also get some kind of buffing compound. Depending on what you're polishing like granite or marble (for piedrafina or Venetian surfaces). Dia-glo on that same website is good just get the one that's right for you. or if it's quartz the quartz renew system is the best. Also if you've never done this before be fully prepared to accept the fact you are going to make it worse. Face polishing is not an easy thing to do. Especially on quartz. In a shower it may be less noticable the damage you're about to cause especially if it's lighter in color than dark. Darker colors can be very difficult to get to the proper shine. So if you have a chunk of material i strongly suggest practicing on that first before you mess with the shower. If you don't have anything to practice on go to a local fab shop take a picture of your material and ask if they have anything in the dumpster you can have to practice on first. Or you can avoid all of this and hire a professional.

just a note to actually pay attention to the max rated RPM on the system you buy. Like an idiot I listened to some youtuber who said you could use a standard non-variable speed grinder with a specific brand, and while polishing a tile the whole rubber assembly violently destructed and threw itself and the tile I was working on across the room.

I just got a set of 4" diamond polishing pads online... If you're truly trying to polish marble and not hone it you'll need up to 5000grit and to wet polish with a variable speed grinder set pretty low
