January 20, 2013 - I wouldn't extend the shelves any higher than under the matel (unlike your picture) because it just looks weird, the fireplace should be the center piece, the tallest piece. Plus, if you put your flat screen over it, you won't have the proper width clearance. Note that I don't recommend a TV to be placed so high, so you might want to rethink completely having your entertainment center over there.

February 27, 2019 - I mounted the tv lift to the floor and to two 2" X 4" supports mounted to the outside wall of the slide, measuring to make sure I had enough space for the top door to swing up and open when the tv lifts out of the cabinet. From there, I boxed in the tv and built a frame for the fireplace to mount in front of the tv, leaving about 7 or 8 inches between the back of the fireplace and the front of the tv enclosure.

June 19, 2024 - Once the horizontal pieces were in, it was time to build the individual sections above the fireplace insert. First, I did the TV mount area. I planned to make this a little bit inset so the TV didn’t stick too far out when it was finished.

July 20, 2021 - The unit is mounted, the wall is painted (including edging around everything), the baseboard is reinstalled, painted, and caulked, wires are all run, new TV is in, fireplace is in, all of that. It needs doors and it's done. The problem with the IR repeater seems to be that it's unreliable and doesn't like to work consistently.
