I sell a decent amount of vintage t-shirts, about 70% of which are sourced via wholesale and 30% from thrifts, garage sales, private buys, and bulk eBay lots. Like you, I was completely shocked to learn that condition factors that would push most buyers away from typical clothing sales (rips, stains, discoloration) are acceptable to most vintage buyers and in some cases, sought after. The tricky bit about selling vintage tees is that tons of people are doing it right now, so the days of scooping a crate full of old band shirts from the 80s for dirt cheap are much harder to come by. If you're looking to get started, definitely start learning about different tags (used to determine approx age and legit-check), learn the lingo (all-over print, rap tees, worn thin, etc), learn about the repro period, and learn the grails and hot seller niches. Aside from those things, it all comes down to sourcing and pricing appropriately when taking condition, size, competing listings, and recent sales into consideration. The one thing I'd highly recommend is staying away from mystery boxes. Lots of markts have this concept, but a good portion of vintage t-shirt mystery boxes are just crap that the supplier doesn't want to sell themselves, so they dump it on some sucker. I've been that sucker before and even though everything is definitely sellable, you're lucky to make even 10-15% ROI on most of them and not be stuck with 75% of them 6+ months later. If you're buying in bulk lots, chances are you're not going to be able to hand select everything, but you at least want to be able to either select a certain amount of them or at least specify a number from each category.
