My mom purchased a new iphone and sent me her old Iphone 12 in the mail. She's not very tech savvy and I didn't even try to explain to her about icloud activation lock before she mailed it out. I just figured I'd remove it myself once the phone was in my possession which is now proving to be more difficult than had been anticipated.

My mom doesn't understand the difference between her phone's passcode and her Apple ID password. I was able to get the passcode... but not the Apple ID password. Also, facial recognition is turned on and I'm unable to bypass facial recognition and use the passcode instead to remove the phone from icloud.

I also called her and walked her through the process of removing the Iphone 12 from icloud using the new phone's settings App... but it wouldn't allow her to use the new phone due to some Theft Protection feature that is activated on the Iphone 12.

I'm thinking at this point, my two options are:

1. Mail the phone back to her so she can complete the process using facial recognition.

2. Obtain her Apple ID password and remove the iphone 12 from icloud.com using my PC.

I'd rather go with option 2, but if this option won't work, I don't want to go through the difficult process of trying to explain to her what an Apple ID password is and how to figure out what it is.

If there are any other options that I haven't thought of, please let me know. Thanks!
