ByteBuffer - when to use
if a java app has to read that data from direct buffer, does it have to copy to a byte[] ? Or can it directly manipulate the ByteBuffer? You can read/write individual bytes from a direct byte buffer, or copy chunks to / from regular old byte arrays. What is the need for this when we have byte[] ? Even when it's just wrapping a standard byte[], ByteBuffer provides some convenience methods which can be helpful (e.g. 'get' and 'put' which keep track of the current position within the buffer, and methods which allow reading and writing of other multi-byte data types to/from the buffer). It also fits into a larger collection of classes used for IO. Having an interface like this allows those classes to interoperate together, and different buffer implementations to be switched out which have different underlying storage. Something more concrete and specific like byte[] cannot be used as flexibly. More on reddit.com
ByteBuffer for C#?
You mean off managed heap. Because Marshal still allocates from the heap, just the unmanaged one. stackalloc will allocate space on the stack. Also, a value type. I think you're question is unclear. More on reddit.com
How to share memory between Java and Rust?
Knowing nothing about the problem, I’d probably expose a rust function and call it from Java using FFI. https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/javase/21/core/calling-c-library-function-foreign-function-and-memory-api.html#GUID-E7255CE9-5A95-437C-B37A-276B6C9B5F4D https://doc.rust-lang.org/nomicon/ffi.html 2. You don’t, it’ll be garbage collected. 3. You don’t. If rust needs to keep the data post function, copy it. More on reddit.com
Can someone explain to me why I am getting a BufferUnderflowException?
Please ensure that: Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions You include any and all error messages in full - best also formatted as code block You ask clear questions You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions. If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning. Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit/markdown editor: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://i.imgur.com/EJ7tqek.png ) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc. Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit. Code blocks look like this: public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!"); } } You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above. If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion. In this case, they will comment with an explanation on why it has been removed, and you will be required to resubmit the entire post following the proper procedures. To potential helpers Please, do not help if any of the above points are not met, rather report the post. We are trying to improve the quality of posts here. In helping people who can't be bothered to comply with the above points, you are doing the community a disservice. I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. October 10, 2019 - ByteBuffer provides plethora of methods to fetch data from the buffer and to add data to the buffer. The below code shows the use of those APIs: import java.nio.ByteBuffer; public class ByteBufferTest { public static void main(String[] args) { //Create a directBuffer of size 200 bytes ByteBuffer directBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(200); //Create a nonDirectBuffer of size 200 bytes ByteBuffer nonDirectBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(200); //Get the capacity of the buffer System.out.println("Capacity "+nonDirectBuffer.capacity()); //Get the position of the buffer System.out.println("Position "

November 14, 2022 - Below image is a logical view of a newly created ByteBuffer with a capacity of 10. The position is set to 0, and the capacity and limit are set to 10, just past the last byte the buffer can hold. The mark is initially undefined. As we saw above that there are seven primary buffer classes, one for each of the non-boolean primitive data types in the Java language.

The Java ByteBuffer – a crash course - Java Code Geeks
December 19, 2012 - For example, supposing you were implementing a ByteBuffer version of UnsignedBytes.compare() (again, from Guava) – you may wish to optimize the case where either or both of the arguments are array backed, to avoid unnecessary copying and frequent calls to the buffers. For such a generic and potentially heavily used method, such an optimization would make sense.
