Data Types in C - GeeksforGeeks
Explanation: enum Day defines named constants such as MON, TUE, and WED, which are assigned integer values starting from 0. Day today = WED creates an enum variable and assigns it the value WED. The size of the data types in C is dependent on the size of the architecture, so we cannot define the universal size of the data types.

Fundamental types - cppreference.com
For every value of type unsigned char in range [0, 255], converting the value to char and then back to unsigned char produces the original value.(since C++11) The signedness of char depends on the compiler and the target platform: the defaults for ARM and PowerPC are typically unsigned, the defaults for x86 and x64 are typically signed. wchar_t — type for wide character representation (see wide strings).

Is it so that for integer data types (32-bit machine), 4 bytes reserved for an integer and 1 byte reserved for character datatype. In other words, integer data types consumes 4 times more space than a character datatype and everything else remains the same.
If so, we cannot have a different datatype that too will have 1 byte or 4 bytes of space.
