What is the difference between C’est marrant and c’est génial and c’est canon and c’est sympa and c’est d’ouf ?
C'est génial | WordReference Forums
Génial, excellent, formidable etc.
what do french people say instead of cool? like "that's cool".
When you want to say something is great or excellent in French, it seems you have a lot of words to choose from. These are the most common ones I've run across:
•génial
•formidable
•excellent
•super
•magnifique
How do these differ in terms of emphasis of greatness? Which of these would express the highest level of praise?
I'm guessing the words and their power has a lot to do with context, which is why it might be hard to rank them like this. But I'd love a native's intuitive feel about them anyways :)
I'm also interested whether some of the words are used in certain contexts over others. I'm guessing "super" is more casual than "formidable", right?
If there are other commonly used words like these, I'd love to hear about them as well :)
