CADMAPPER for Revit Site Context
September 30, 2025 - For Revit users with the AEC Collection, sometimes available topographic data from an engineer is too cost prohibitive, or just not available yet for a project. That’s where a great website comes in called www.cadmapper.com With cadmapper, you can generate free CAD files of up to 1km2 containing the project’s topo data to use for Revit.

r/Revit on Reddit: Rendering topology from CAD import
July 26, 2018 -

Hello, I am trying to render my site model in Revit, however the roads alone are not showing on the render.

I used CADMapper to get the local area into AutoCAD. I then split up the topology, buildings, and roads into separate layers. I then linked them directly into Revit. When I go to render the model, the buildings and topology display fine, however the roads do not. I do not mind them showing in the render as just outlines, I just need to show generally where they are.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i've been watching a lot of videos about the cadmapper and OSM workflows to make sites in revit really fast, i know how to do the topography and also now how to place the buildings, etc.
My problem is with the roads and sidewalks that in order to make the subregion i have to select each line at a time.
Is there any software or way to make streets quickly in revit?

Nope. Not that I know of. If your subregions are hardscaping (roads/footpaths) that are existing, you can use the AutoCAD DWG that as imported into Revit (and probably provided by Surveyor or if proposed probably provided by the Civil Engineer or Landscape Architect). This may be another imported type file but AutoCAD DWGs in 3D format are most popular. You can pick the lines in them using the Revit pick tool and using the tab button you can pick all the lines that are connected to that line in the DWG. The downside is that DWG source file can often have multiple lines connected together to form what in overview can simply be done in a single line or curve. So what you may have to do is pick those lines using the pick tool, then go through and replace the lines with a single line or curve. I always say if the subregions are for context only ( and aren't going to be built) then if they are marginally incorrect then its not going to matter. Another time saver is when you have subregions that sit directly alongside one another like a road and a sidewalk/footpath. Once you have done the line work for the subregion perimeter of the road for example, then copy the lines and finish the subregion. Then create a new subregion for the footpath and immediately paste those copied lines into the same place. Delete the ones you don't want, determine what the width of the footpath is and offset the lines you kept. This copy/paste linework is a huge timesaver and avoids overlapping subregions which can be right bastard.
