Torn Calf Muscle: Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
August 24, 2021 - A torn calf muscle, or calf muscle tear, is a severe calf strain, an injury that occurs when you overstretch a muscle in your calf. Your calf muscles (the gastrocnemius and soleus) are in your lower leg, behind your shin bone.
Pulled calf muscle
Lower injuries need blood exchange. You need to make sure you've got that leg elevated frequently. Because your legs are usually down (I mean, right?), they don't get the positive blood flow that other body parts can get. Set yourself up with some episodes of Ted Lasso or Lower Decks, and drain that blood. BTW, I had one once so bad that the blood pooled up in my heal, and felt like I was walking in a wet sock for a week. (0/10 stars, would not recommend.) More on reddit.com

Torn calf muscle. I'm devastated. What can I do at home to still exercise while this heals?
Try something new and start lifting weights while it heals up. I see bros in leg casts all the time who still maintain their upper body and ab routines until they can start training legs again. You can do leg exercises on your uninjured leg and quad/hamstring exercises like leg extensions on your injured calf leg too. There is a double below-the-knee leg amputee I see at the gym who lifts so you really have no excuse.

Additional testing that can be used during evaluation of calf strain includes the Thompson test for complete disruption of the Achilles tendon, circumferential calf measurements to quantify asymmetry and functional movements. These movements may include hopping, running, and jumping in order to illicit more sublet calf muscle dysfunction. It should be noted that concomitant tears of both the soleus and gastrocnemius are possible.
