I'm from Hollywood. Yes, Express can be purchased as a ticket add-on in the park on the day of your visit. Follow the signs to find out where. They advertise it like crazy. I don't know about the whole swapping tickets thing, but the tickets have names attached to them. However, if your wife isn't going on the rides with you, why not just get it for your son and yourself?

I just went this past weekend and upgraded my ticket at the park. It was $100 for express pass one time use per ride. They have an unlimited express pass for $140. But it was worth the extra money not to stand in line for 30-60 mins per ride in my opinion. Also, they only have a certain number of express passes given out in a day. So make sure if you upgrade at the park that you get there before they open. I was there by 0830 for good parking and to purchase the express passes for 4 of us. Hope this helps :)

Hi we visited in July. Express ticket upgrades were $130 (£approx £100) per person. We felt it was expensive but definitely made the day go well. We went on every ride and managed to go on our favourites twice. The backlot studio tour had a two hour wait but we only had to wait 20 mins in the express queue. Please note that because so many people buy express tickets, there tends to still be a wait, but it’s much more reasonable.
