i have a duvet insert and some pillows filled with down, alongside a winter coat as well. do i put these in the washer? will it ruin the feathers/down? what do you wash it with? do you dry it? what settings? am i condemned to the dry cleaner?

Wash it! Also, I completely disagree with the above post – you can totally tumble dry feathers! I literally do it every month. And if you live somewhere damp, and you don’t tumble a dry, you’ll have a moldy mess and you will throw away your comforter. I use tennis balls/dryer balls and a clean dry towel in there. Probably washed about eight different down comforters in my lifetime, and I just washed a very expensive down pillow and all have come out just fine. ETA: low in the dryer for 30-45 minutes and then lowest setting in the dryer until it’s puffy and dry.
