Hopefully you have access to some of these shows on Canadian Netflix (I feel for you): - Maid - Easily my favourite new series on Netflix, I practically watched it all in one sitting, through the night, crying at least once. Reminds me a bit of the "flashback" background stories in OITNB when you get to see the history of the women in prison and how they ended up in prison. But like if they made those background stories into an entire series and fleshed out their story more, and their story ended well (not in prison). Oh and just like the first season of OITNB, Maid is inspired by a memoir by the same name. - Unorthodox - Also inspired from a memoir. - On My Block - Pose - Jane the Virgin - might be too campy/silly for your taste - it's a parody of telenovelas, yet also very earnest - but then Shameless and Orange Is The New Black can be pretty over-the-top ridiculous at times. Actually, the increasingly over-the-top crime drama plot reminds me a lot of OITNB, but more silly and in the style of telenovelas (it is a parody, after all). The trailer I linked doesn't really do it justice (not least because of the terrible background music choices), so if you're at all curious I would try at least the first two episodes. - Russian Doll - I became obsessed with this series when I finally gave it a second chance and watched past the first episode. The plot of Russian Doll very compelling, but also completely different from the series you mentioned, so I am mostly recommending it because the series stars Natasha Lyonne ("Nicky" from Orange Is The New Black). The character she plays in Russian Doll ("Nadia") has a very similar destructive, darkly funny and emotive personality as Nicky from Orange Is The New Black (and who doesn't love Nicky?). - Feel Good - surely you must have access ti this series, as the protagonist/series creator is Canadian.

It's so fun to practice listening to Canadian French, and the subtitles are incredibly helpful. I figured I'd share in case anyone else is interested.

If you're interested there's the website ici.tou.tv which is radio-Canada's streaming service. Tons of French-Canadian shows and movies. It costs 8$ a month. There are French subtitles for everything, don't think there are English subtitles though
