r/AskACanadian on Reddit: What are some classic culturally Canadian movies?
September 25, 2022 -

Think of movies like Top Gun, Forrest Gump, Rocky, Tombstone, for the United States. What are those “equivalencies” in Canada?

Thank you. :)

Why do Canadian movies and T.V. shows feel so... Canadian?
Someone answered this in another sub awhile back. I can't remember where or who because I would like to give credit to them. From what I remember, it basically comes down to less expensive equipment, especially the cameras, and the use of music/score. American productions use a lot of music, because they can afford it, whereas Canadian productions use much less. I'm not doing it justice, as this was very detailed, but that is the gist from memory. October 31, 2024 - It’s impossible to talk about Canadian horror, or even Canadian cinema, without the word “Cronenberg” escaping your lips. I recently watched David Cronenberg’s 1996 film, Crash, for the first time. It follows a group of symphorophiliacs—people who get off on car crashes. It’s horny and strange, bathed in black and slick with sex. Crash came twenty years into Cronenberg’s career and a decade after his masterpieces Videodrome and The Fly. It isn’t strictly a horror movie, but like most of Cronenberg’s stuff, it unfolds like a nightmare.
