Hello r/AskACanadian,
For most of my life I've shopped at Price Chopper, Freshco, and Walmart. Going to the "main" stores (Loblaw, Sobeys, Metro) wasn't feasible because of how far they were.
Real Canadian Superstore (RCSS) is somewhat close but I only go in there when I can't find certain things in Freshco or Walmart. Besides the fact that they're under Loblaw, I don't know much about RCSS. However I've been learning a lot about store structures and realized I've spent most of my life buying from discount stores and the reason I couldn't find specific things was because the stores are designed to favour savings over quality and quantity.
What do you guys think of the store? Any pros and cons? Anything helps because I might go there this week.
So, in light of recent political developments I see a number of ads from Superstore (Real Canadian Superstore?) showing products they sell that are "Canadian". It dawned on me they may not be Canadian them selves?? Who "owns" Superstore? Is it Canadian? It would be ironic if Superstore was not in fact Canadian but promoted buying Canadian products in their store.
I asked "Leo the question and this is the answer
**Yes**, Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstore are Canadian-owned companies. They are owned by Loblaw Companies Limited, a Canadian food retailing giant. In fact, the company was founded by Canadian entrepreneurs Theodore Pringle Loblaw and J. Milton Cork in 1919. Today, Loblaw Companies Limited is a subsidiary of George Weston Limited, a Canadian holding company controlled by the Weston family.
