question about 5d mark III video.
Live streaming a 3hr long event with a 5D Mark II DSLR: possible or a big no-no?
-
Film style cameras can be prone to overheating
-
No powered zoom
-
You usually have record time limits
-
HDMI sucks
-
Lousy audio
-
No genlock
That being said, if you can get a clean HDMI out there is no reason it couldn't work.
You'd probably be much happier with a professional camcorder though. They start at around $3k.
More on reddit.comHow to get the Canon 5D Mark III to autofocus when recording video?
Wouldn't be surprised if that camera didn't have autofocus in video. Not many Canon's do.
Its rare for DSLRs in general since their main autofocus is done under the mirror. There is a secondary mirror behind the big mirror used for the OVF. The secondary mirror bounces the light down to the autofocus sensor. The reason mirrorless cameras tend to have better autofocus in video is that all of the autofocus tech is happening in the sensor pipeline, since there is no mirror, so enabling it or video doesn't require making anything extra.

I use the 5 mark III with ML for video but recently I've been puzzling over the native video on this camera.
The 5d mark III was used on a number of films and the TV show House, but I can't for the life of me figure out how anyone got usable production quality video out of this camera with stock settings.
No matter what I do, how I expose, what lens I use, the 8 bit h.264 footage ALWAYS looks bad and full of compression artifacts, yet when I watch that episode of house, or Francis ha for instance (shot with the mark II) it looks fine.
What's going on here? How do you make the default video on this camera look decent?
What am I doing wrong?
