Canon EOS R vs Canon EOS R6 III: Specifications Comparison
November 7, 2025 - A few casual shots with a lens completely unsuitable for birds got him hooked, and now wildlife photography is his biggest passion. Jason loves to show the beauty of animals to the world through photography, and one of his lifelong goals is to photograph five thousand species of birds.

EOS R upgrade to R6 Mark II?
To me, it seemed like the Canon R was a half-spirited attempt at a full-frame mirrorless. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent camera but they’ve come a long way with the R6 and R5. The R had a recycled sensor pulled from the 5D IV which is why the dynamic range isn’t great. That sensor is several years old now, too. The R6 II would be a pretty significant upgrade all around. Better AF, better DR, better low-light capabilities, better ergonomics. Do it. I work at a camera store and need to keep an unbiased opinion about all camera systems. The R-to me-was not a great camera. The R6 and the soon to be released R6 II are. More on reddit.com

I had the A7III, and it is an amazing camera, but for me, the ergonomics of the Canon beat the Sony every time. The extra savings would be nice, but to have a camera that makes me want to pick it up every day meant more than savings. More on reddit.com

Used R6 vs New R6 Mk II
The original R6 is still a fantastic camera despite being superseded. Most of the significant upgrades in the Mk II version pertain to video use—there are only minor differences between stills shooting with the R6 and R6 II. Unless you're planning extensive video use, there's probably not much to be gained in spending the extra GBP1200 on an R6 II. More on reddit.com

Canon r6 or r8?
They're both great cameras. The R6 has the better build, IBIS, dual cards, and the option to use a fully mechanical shutter, more controls (amongst other things), but none of these features are essential for making nice photos, they just help at times. The R8 has a better sensor, a better AF system, and is smaller and lighter; likewise its batteries and charger are smaller and lighter, so it makes for a more compact travel option. Most people would say get the R6, I tend to lean more towards the R8 myself as it has one of Canon's most capable sensors in a very compact body, and as someone who also likes take photos when travelling, I value that a bit more than IBIS and dual card slots. Canon EOS R6 III in-depth review: no need for hype, just deliver: DPReview | Photography News, Gear Reviews & Community
Canon EOS R6 Mark III
The EOS R6 III is launching into a market segment with robust competition. Its predecessor was still quite a sensible option, so we've included it in the comparison, alongside the Nikon Z6III, which offers a similar combination of fast shooting, top-tier autofocus and incredible video specs. The EOS R6 III did well at almost every test we put it through, from shooting stills to filming several videos.

r/canon on Reddit: EOS R upgrade to R6 Mark II?
November 14, 2022 -

Been shooting with the EOS R for the last few years while overseas. I typically use it for street photography, portrait and some concert photography. Very rarely do I use it for sport or extreme action shots.

I've been on the fence the last few weeks with upgrading from the EOS R to the R6 Mark II. I can get around $900-1000 for my R so upgrading to the R6 Mark II would be roughly a $1500 upgrade.

My biggest gripes with the EOS R have been its autofocus unreliability in street settings while I'm moving. Very rarely on busy streets do I have time to stop, set and shoot and I think the new subject tracking on the R6 Mark II might help with that with the tracking and IBIS. I also have not been a big fan of the feel of the EOS R vs when I had the 5D Mark III in terms of usability and physical placement of controls. Last gripe I have with the EOS R is just the dynamic range isn't the best and in situations where I'm dealing with dark shadows and bright LEDs that matters a lot to me.

So wanted to get input from ya'll to see what might be the way to go. Unfortunately I dont have a lot of time to wait after release because I'll be back overseas to shoot 2 weeks after it releases.

Thanks for your time!

What to Purchase - EOS R5 vs R6 vs R6 Mark II vs R - Canon Community
August 21, 2024 - If you don't need 45MP, then forego the R5 and get the 24MP R6II, which has at least one stop better dynamic range. Unless you are going to do very large, detailed prints, then 24MP should be fine. cheers, TREVOR The mark of good photographer is less what they hold in their hand, it's more what they hold in their head; "All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow", Leo Tolstoy; "Skill in photography is acquired by practice and not by purchase" Percy W.

January 25, 2026 - I always use a zoom lens as my main lens, and I currently shoot with the Canon 28-70 f/2 USM lens. It’s a HUGE lens, but it’s incredible. It’s a bit too big for the EOS R though, which is a pretty small camera, but I think it would work with the R6 Mark III, which has a larger, sturdier body.

EOS R6 Mark II or Mark III? - Canon Community
November 9, 2025 - I have a Canon 7D II and several good EOS EF lenses, including two L lenses. Heading to Kenya in winter for a safari and considering upgrade of camera body. With new R6 model, there are some deals on Mark II. Just not sure the extra money is worth it. I’ll following along to see what the experts say. I plan to use old lenses with adapter, since my go to lens will be a 70-200 F2.8 L IS. Same lens in RF is steep $. I also own a 2X Extender.
