EOS R: Why use C Log3? - Canon Community
December 15, 2024 - Just turn log off. You can find out how on page 377 of the advanced user guide. ... the Canon LUT is required which in itself has about 50 different choices · Yeah, the number of LUTs they supply is pretty bewildering. However, the files are actually named sensibly... once you understand the code. Basically: Ignore 1dlut, it's obsilete -- use 3dlut ·

Canon's newest firmware update (1.0.4.1.00) for their C300 Mark II camera contains a number of nice improvements to the camera's features and functionality. One of the updates that caught our eye is the inclusion of a new logarithmic gamma curve, Canon Log 3, available from the Custom Picture menu.
People also ask

Which Canon Log is best for low light?

Canon Log 2 is the ideal choice for when maximum detail is required, particularly in low-light scenes to extract shadow information. However, it will also cause elevated noise in those darker regions of the image and therefore require more time in post-production.

How does Canon Log help with colour grading in post-production?

Canon Log helps with colour grading as it is recorded at 10-bit colour depth and provides a flat image with low saturation that is an excellent foundation for colour adjustments and HDR workflows. It is easier to match footage shot on different cameras that have been set to Canon Log, enabling clips from Cinema EOS and EOS mirrorless cameras to be combined and colour matched to give a consistent look on a multi-cam shoot.

Technology has rapidly developed since then, with today's cutting-edge 12-bit DGO and BSI sensors delivering up to 16-stops of dynamic range. Being able to capture this extra 4-stops of latitude led to the introduction of Canon Log 2 and Canon Log 3, with the original Canon Log no longer being required in current models.

Hi I’m new to the whole high end camera thing. When I first got into shooting videos all the YouTubers were talking about C-log 3 when reviewing canon cameras. I recently for the first time heard about C-log 2. Is the difference that noticeable? What would be the differences?

With the LUT applied and at 2 stops and more under exposed, there was some noise when using the LOG2 curve, but the LOG 3 curve looked less noisy. For many situations I would prefer to trade the extra stop of dynamic rage gained by using LOG2 for the cleaner shaddow areas that LOG3 provides. The original Canon LOG is still available and is probably closer to LOG3 than LOG2.

Hey ya’ll, for the Davinci resolve and canon R5 clog 3 users, whats your CST like? Do you guys have trouble converting to Rec709 with the footage? I feel like my conversion isn’t quite right. Help me out please! Maybe a screenshot of it. Thanks !

I’m not sure why people are bashing cinema gamut. You get more dynamic range and greater flexibility with colors. As far as doing any color or lighting adjustments, don’t use color space transform, that will degrade the overall quality of the colors, similar to using luts You want to use color management. You need to activate it by going to the project settings>color management > under “color science” dropdown choose “DaVinci YRGB color managed”, next deselecte automatic color management, next under “color processing mode” drop down select “HDR DaVinci wide gamut intermediate”, finally select the output color space as Rec709.A for apple and Rec709 Gamma 2.4 for windows. I know that’s a lot but you can save it as a preset and default. The last step is to go to your media tab and then select all of the clips captured under a certain profile and right click to show the options and go to “input color space” then select “canon cinema gamut canon Log3” It will automatically convert all selected clips to roughly the same colors that your viewfinder had if you have the viewfinder assist on in your camera. You can now go to the color tab and make adjustments to color and lighting. The advantage of this is you don’t have to download any luts, you don’t have to apply any luts directly onto log footage, and if you are using different profile, like either clog3 in BT2020 or Rec709 all you have to do is select those clips and then select that option in the “input color space” option. This is extremely handy for if you’re working especially with different brand cameras like Sony. You can very quickly convert SLog3 footage to Rec709 and CLog3 to Rec709 and the colors will be consistent across both camera’s footage

Im no expert and just a hobbyist so please these are no facts. What color space do you use in camera, im asking because you didnt mention it. So, the fastest workflow I found was: Record in Cinema Gammut / Clog3 on the R5 Download the conversion lut pack from the official Canon support website (under R5, software) Chose the right LUT according to the file name: eg: "CinemaGamut_CanonLog3-to-BT709_WideDR_17_FF_Ver.2.0.cube" or chose any other LUT depending on your in-camera color settings hope this helps a little

Colour Grading Canon LOG 3 in Davinci Resolve | Step by Step
November 7, 2021 - In this video I take you through my process of how I colour Grade Canon LOG 3 footage from the Canon R5, R6, 1Dx Mark III and Canon's Cine Line Cameras. I really like how Log 3 looks and how easy it is to grade. I feel like it is a little bit more forgiving than Canon LOG and it seems to work very well with the Canon R5 and newer Canon sensors.
