Getting Great Colour From Canon Picture Styles: DPReview | Photography News, Gear Reviews & Community
September 21, 2012 - For each image I'll use Canon's In-camera convention of reporting Picture Style settings, separated by commas: Picture Style, Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation, Color Tone. Click on any image to see an enlargement. There are 6 different preinstalled Picture Styles to choose from: Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Neutral, Faithful and Monochrome.
Picture style settings for outside portrait photography???
For me, I shoot raw and fine tune in DPP4 before exporting to JPEG. For my family, Portrait is a little pink. I find +1 on the tone makes it work. If your skin is already on the yellow or brown side of the scale - that might not work for you. We’re a pale bunch. I hit the auto gamma adjustment, then tweak to get rid of highlight/shadow alerts. And on the newer cameras, I can -1 on the clarity slider just so every blemish and wrinkle is softened a bit. Lastly, I’ll adjust the curve just a bit if I think it needs it. Portraits, I prefer even tones, so I try to lessen the contrast a bit. Then I’ll ask my subject, “Before or after?”, making minor tweaks to their liking. Don’t know if it’s any good or not. But it’s what I do. I’ve also used the P-Studio preset that comes with Canon Picture Style Editor software as well. Similar adjustments. I think that one is just a bit softer. More on reddit.com

How to Easily Use the Canon Picture Style Function
October 21, 2024 - I love vibrant colors, and that is what the saturation settings in Standard style give you. As the name entails, portrait mode is for, well, portraits. The goal of portrait mode is to optimize skin tones and saturation. It also reduces edge sharpness to keep the skin looking softer. You don’t want those pores being an eyesore, do you? Nature photographers rejoice, the landscape mode is here to aid you! According to Canon, it produces ‘punchier greens and blues with stronger sharpening for crisper-edged mountain, tree, and building outlines’. This mode looks like a quick basic preset or Instagram filter and is a favourite.

Forget any special modes, use shutter priority. The 50 mm lens works for portraits but for hill frame you ideally shpuöf have something longer. Just do not get too close. The problem with such special modes is that your next camera might nit have them or they might work differently.

What Are Canon Pictures Styles. Which Picture Style Is The Best To Use
Use AUTO picture style when you want to "set it and forget it" and let the camera set the parameters to what it thinks is best, based on its analysis of the scene in front of it. This is the default setting that your EOS camera is set to when it leaves the factory. Use STANDARD when you want increased sharpening, contrast, and saturation. Use the PORTRAIT picture style when you have people in your scene and you want pleasing flesh tones.
