The R10 is a solid choice for your use case and if you can wait til Black Friday or just after (likely when the next sale will be) there’s a good chance (though not guaranteed) that the R10 will be in stock and on sale. In the meantime you can set up a notification on Canon Price Watch so you don’t miss out (they will get snapped up quick). There’s a chance the R8 with a kit lens may be available for around ~$1000 as well, which would be a good step up (though any future lens purchases could get expensive). More on reddit.com

Looking for beginner body & lens reccs. Overwhelmed with so many reviews & opinions but I’d like mirrorless. Open to any brand. Want something I can grow into overtime and have longevity.
$1,300 total budget.
Interested in portraits of family, travel, landscapes, & potentially some food photography and video. Priority is in that order while I learn and narrow down what I enjoy snooting.
I’ve been looking at the Canon R10 kit with 18-45mm and the 50mm lens in addition because of reviews & it fits within my budget. But open to anything as well as spending less for refurbished.
Interested in shooting in RAW and manual mode as I’m trying to learn and registered for a local class and have Lightroom experience.

Lumix s5 from a private seller should be like $800. At worst $1k from mpb. Then grab a 50mm 1.8 or 20-60mm kit lens. The s5 is an entry to pro level camera with a sensor that is on par with the r3 and r5 ($4k used and $2.9k used respectively) Its video features are very impressive with 4k 60, log recording, and very difficult to get it to overheat. It's got dual card slots, great ibis, and weather sealing. It's a camera you could grow into and shoot professionally with at bargain prices
