If the camera's firmware is already Version1.6.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Download Firmware Version 1.6.0 for the EOS R6 Mark II.
EOS R6 Mark II: Firmware Version 1.6.0
I don't know how quickly they update the camera documentation, if its updated maybe there is something else you need to enable for it to work. Also, was your flash in TTL or M mode? It may only work if the flash is in TTL mode (which I never use). Just making guesses here. More on reddit.com

Focusing issues with the canon r6 mk 2.
Are you using person detection or eye detection? Or just turning those off and using single point autofocus? I would think using eye and person detection would get you better results if you’re not using them. But yes, if your subject moves behind something else the camera loses focus. The most recent firmware update for the R5 mark II and R1 included an autofocus Case: Special “for subjects located behind a net in sporting events, such as badminton or volleyball” but it doesn’t look like the latest R6 mark II firmware 1.6.0 included this. Not sure if it could be coming later for the R6II or not. More on reddit.com

I just got an email for new firmware update for R6 II with #5 as the reason why I wanted to upgrade. I thought this would fix the issue of the camera disabling simulated exposure when a flash is attached. I updated firmware, checked the simulated exposure settings and nothing's changed and the camera still does the same thing. I guess #5 is useless still?
