Right now I have the 90d and tamron 150-600. I am planning on getting the rf 200-800 with one of the cameras. I usually do wildlife photography and video. I don’t really have a budget but I am planning on selling my regular set up on KEH. I have been using canon products for two years and this would be my first mirrorless camera.

Imo, if you can afford it, i would go for the mkIII. People like to say its upgrades are mostly for video which, sure its got video upgrades, but it also has 33% more photo resolution than the mkii at 32vs24mp. According to the reports i have seen, the mkiii has noticably improved Autofocus. It also has pre capture, up to 20 photos, (or 5 seconds for video), which is amazing, and, depending on your shooting style, can save you from haveing to go through tons of extra pictures if you are waiting for a specific thing to happen, instead of constantly taking pictures you can wait for for it to actually happen then hit the shutter. I have it on my R7, and for the times its useful its awesome, and on the r6mkiii its even better because its useful for both raw and jpeg.

January 25, 2026 - It never made sense for me to go with the previous versions of the R6 because the MP were 20.1 MP with the first version of the camera and 24.2 MP with the R6 Mark II. It would have been a step down photography-wise, even if they were technically better video-wise. Going through the photos from my time with the R6 Mark III, the photos reminded me of a blend of my 5D Mark IV and my EOS R. They have a slight mirrorless look to them, which are super sharp but can sometimes come across more “digital”, but they still had those lovely color tones and natural beauty that Canon is known for.

I have been planning on buying the R6 III since it's new, has newer sensor and has improved AF. But I could not shake the feeling that the older R6 II is still a capable camera plus it shares the same sensor as the R8.

Nope. There’s nothing on the R6III that I would want to do that I cannot do on the R6II. For my needs anyway. My files at 24 megapixels are also more than enough for my use case. I also prefer the dual SD slots to the split format.
