I have both cameras. For portraits and travel I would get the R6 and don't look back. It is fantastic. Consider that it came out very shortly after the 1dXmkiii, which is a $6,500 camera, and it has essentially same sensor. The main difference being that the R6 is better and way cheaper :) I use the R5 for wildlife and macro, which is mainly what I do.

The R5 is so cheap right now. Around $2500 for the R5 is an easy buy for your use unless you have money to burn then I’d see what the mk2 has to offer.
Take the extra megapixels. Not having to nail your framing in camera and ability to crop is huge. The AF is still amongst the best in the industry.

The R6 isn’t really better in low light in photography. When you down res the image the r5 will have less noise and more detail. I can’t speak for every one else but due to the price it makes me want to take the R5 less casually. The R6 is very nice and if you crop a lot in post detail may be an issue but for the price it’s hard to justify the price of the r5. The r5 doesn’t really overheat in video anymore and it may be worth to get the mk ii version if you can’t decide between the two. More on reddit.com
