Canon EOS R6 vs Sony A7 III - The 10 Main Differences and Full Comparison - Mirrorless Comparison
May 16, 2025 - This means that the Canon is 2 stops more sensitive in low light. This advantage became noticeable in my low light test, where the subject walked towards the camera in a near pitch dark living room.

Sony A7 IV vs Canon R6 Mark II
R6 II is the way to go for speed, a7 IV for dynamic range and overall image quality. Mainly for video purposes but also true for stills, it’s just less significant. Reason being that Canon has faster readout speed, which means less rolling shutter, but they sacrificed dynamic range to achieve that. So your highlights will clip sooner and your shadows will be a bit noisier. Sport tends to be fairly evenly lit, so you might not need the dynamic range, and it’s still better than the 6D so you might no notice anyway. More on reddit.com

Canon R6 vs Sony A7IV
honestly the menu thing becomes second nature after like a week or two of actually using it daily. i switched from canon to sony a few years back and yeah those menus are straight up confusing at first but once you customize them to your workflow its not even an issue that said if youre already deep in the canon ecosystem with lenses and accessories it might not be worth the switch unless youre really feeling limited by what youve got. the R6 mark 3 is solid and if you know canon inside and out that workflow efficiency is worth something but man that low light performance difference is real. if thats a big part of your work then it might be worth considering. what kind of documentary stuff are you shooting where low light matters most More on reddit.com

Sony a7siii or Canon R6 Mark II
A7sIII is a better video camera, no doubt. Faster framerates, more/better codec options, way less rolling shutter. The Sony's photo resolution is weaksauce, the Canon's 24MP is just about perfect for most things. The native Sony lens ecosystem is way larger and more affordable than the Canon RF system, although you can adapt the older EF-mount lenses (including third-party) quite seamlessly with the Canon. Canon will most likely have better color, the AF between the two will probably be roughly on par, the ergonomics of the Canon will be better. The Sony has a way better EVF, the Canon's screen will be a bit better. More on reddit.com

Video dynamic range Sony A7III Vs R6
Unless you're making high production stuff, both will have plenty of dynamic range for you to tell the stories that you want to. If dynamic range is truly a limiting factor in storytelling then you'll be justified in stepping up to something like a black magic or RED. Considering that both of these cameras are from the same generation they should be very very similar. Since Sony makes sensors, their cameras usually have a bit of an edge so I would expect that the a73 would outperform the R6. But again, it should be really close. Dynamic range is just a tool to tell stories, there's a ton of other differences between these cameras that would make for much more compelling buys in my opinion. More on reddit.com

r/videography on Reddit: Sony A7 IV vs Canon R6 Mark II
January 14, 2023 -

I shoot sports videography and photography - mostly pro soccer. Leaning more into videos lately including short documentaries and player features. I shoot a lot of slow motion and a decent amount of low light situations.

Currently shoot on a Canon 6D Mark II. My lenses are the Sigma EF 24-70 and the Canon EF 70-200, 2.8 (I would not keep this lens as it's version 1 and not sure how much life it has left).

I want to make the jump to mirrorless but for the life of me I can't decide which camera to buy - the Sony A7 IV or the Canon R6 Mark II. Obviously I'm used to the Canon interface but I've rented Sony's in the past and am not put off by the switch. Most professionals in my field shoot Sony.

I will need a 24-70 and a 70-200 or even something longer.

Just looking for a push one way or another before I make the investment. Any recommendations?

February 21, 2026 -

Hey guys, I have been a Canon shooter since I first picked up a camera. I fee like I know the system inside and out and feel comfortable working the menus. Recently my 24-70 lens broke and I am waiting to see how much the repair will cost. In the meantime my friend has lent me his Sony A7IV with the 35mm f/1.4. I cant lie this camera is incredible in terms of quality. However the menus are awful to navigate. I was wondering if I should put my pride aside and look into getting a Sony down the line or commit to my original plan and go from my R6 Mark 1 to the Mark 3. I do mostly photography (documentary/fashion/lifestyle & sometimes product) and have been getting into video for clients and even content creation for myself.

I feel like they are both great cameras but I cant help but notice how well Sony handles low light in comparison to Canon.

November 13, 2022 -

Hey all!

I'm a content creator doing mostly short-form content (IG, TT, YT shorts) at the moment, but I'm to start with long-form on YT too. I've been in the game for a bit more than a year and used iPhone so far (first 12, now 14 Pro).

I want to upgrade my equipment, thinking about the new Canon R6 Mark II vs. the famous Sony A7S III.

What do you recommend, which one is more future-proof? The difference in price doesn't matter to me - I just want to pick up the best out of the two.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. Both cameras under consideration have a sensor with sufficiently fast read-out times for moving pictures, but the R6 Mark II provides a higher frame rate than the A7 III.

The Sony A7 IV vs Canon EOS R6
January 14, 2022 - So, when it comes to pure resolution and detail, the A7 IV is the obvious winner. In contrast, the lower resolution in the Canon R6 contributes to a higher ISO sensitivity and slight edge in low-light performance over the A7 IV.
