G' day,
Previously coming from the Canon platform (Rebel T5) I've decided it's time for an upgrade. After some lengthy research, I've considered my budget and narrowed it down to 2 cameras but am having difficulty deciding which one I should purchase.
A little about what got me into photography/what I shoot:
I always grew up around and loved playing with cameras. So when I became a high schooler, I decided to take a few photography classes. From there, I haven't been able to put my camera down. I mainly shoot car photography and landscapes in my spare time and am noticing a general lack of quality with 95% of my shots. I feel that my current camera is becoming outdated and that now would be the best time to invest in a new camera. With that said, these are the current pros I found from each of my preferred cameras.
R7 pro's:
-
Larger sensor
-
Contains IBS
-
Longer battery life
-
Extra card slot
R8 pro's:
-
Full frame
-
Seemingly better video capabilities
-
Stronger low-light quality
-
Newer/slightly cheaper
-
Most professional creators prefer the R8's capabilities compared to the R7's (from sources viewed)
-- I initially found myself drawn to the R7's larger sensor, battery life, and especially IBS features. However, almost all YouTube videos make it seem the R8 has a slight edge over the R7. I do want to start taking more videos/rollers of cars and wouldn't mind the improved video quality that the R8 boasts. Not to mention the full-framed R8's performance in darker scenes. My only worry is the smaller sensor in the R8 along with the lack of IBS would compromise picture quality and would be noticeably worse than that in the R7.
What are your thoughts?
Also... what are some cheap quality lenses I should look into buying for a camera like this?
Thanks a lot!

Canon R8 vs R7 - real world differences
Debating between R7 & R8:
Sell me on R7 vs R8
Videos
Hello! I'm debating buying either an R7 or R8 to upgrade from my Canon 80D. I do mostly wildlife (birding primarily) and macro photography. I'd also like to dabble with more video and portrait photography. On paper, I know all the differences between the R7 and R8, but real world performance, is one better than the other? I've heard that the R7 has AF issues with EF glass (pulsing on Sigma 150-600C) and has a low readout speed. While the R8 has worse battery and ergonomics. But is FF significantly better than crop that a more stripped down R8 is better than R7?
Im trying to chose between the EOS R7 & R8 which are both mid/low level, mirrorless, and digital; I want your input to help me decide - I shoot in a hobbiest capacity in a wide range of scenarios such as landscapes, cars (especially at night) and shoot the former two the most, well as portraits & wildlife.
I’ve thought of some pros and cons between the two:
R8:
-
low weight, full frame, great ISO range (better for night shots)
-
single card slot, low battery life, no weather sealing (not great for being outdoors in an often wet environment)
R7:
-
dual card slot, very long battery life, weather sealed, better white balance settings, IBIS, mechanical shutter, sturdy
-
crop sensor, a bit bulky and pretty heavy (not great for hiking as I normally do)
Can you all help point me in a direction to help me decide on which of these two cameras I should purchase?
I've done research on what the two of them do. But I don't know how much stock to put into what I've read about each.
I'll keep it simple and tell you I'm really, truly, genuinely not interested in anything beyond the R7 or R8. Yes, even if you really want to tell me how great the R6 Mark ii is. Keep the focus on R7 vs R8, please.
I've had an EOS Rebel T6 for many years and am finally looking to upgrade to something borderline-professional. I am just a hobbyist but I travel internationally pretty regularly and want to take the best photos possible on my trips. I do take some wildlife photos when I can; it is not all just landscapes (relevant to the APS-C vs full-frame question).
What I like about the R7: I'm told it is packed full of features, particularly in regards to AF. APS-C sensor is good for the times when I'm shooting wildlife. Battery life is fantastic. What I don't like: ultimately I probably do more landscape photography than I do wildlife stuff, which means that the APS-C sensor is perhaps the "incorrect" choice over full-frame.
What I like about the R8: full-frame sensor. What I don't like: worse AF, much worse battery life (from what I am told), presumably lacking other general features compared to the R7 (please correct me if I'm wrong). I'm told that it's just more of a beginner / intermediate camera compared to the R7, which worries me.
Tell me which of my assumptions here are correct, or overblown, or just plain wrong, to help me sort out what I should buy. TY in advance and such.
Edit: I should add I don't care about video at all.
