Sony a7 IV vs Canon R6 Hands On Camera Comparison - The Slanted Lens
November 9, 2021 - We’re looking at 10-bit. It should be a really great image on both of them. And the very first thing I see is the Canon has very dark shadows. It’s very crunchy. Of course the color is much more orange on the Canon and more neutral, a little more almost gray looking on the Sony.

September 9, 2025 - Canon R6 Mark II (24.2 MP): Slightly lower resolution but excellent color science (Canon’s signature look). Sony A7 IV (33 MP): More detail, better for cropping, and great dynamic range.

Deciding between the Canon R6 and Sony A7IV
Both are great cameras for pics but some prefer the ergonomics of Canon, deeper grip, easier to hold. On the other hand, Sony offers more custom function buttons. These kind of little things must be also considered before deciding. If you decide to go with Sony, you can also use canon EF lenses on it with an adapter. More on reddit.com

Need Advice on Best Camera for World Tour – Sony A7V vs. Canon R6 Mark II or something else?
Ok I am not a pro and this might be not what you want to hear, but I think Whichever system you choose, you might want two lenses and to downgrade camera budget to afford more optionality there I would think you want something in the 70-200/2.8 range for zoomed up photos and videos of performance. But you also might want a lens in the 24-70/2.8 range for shots of crowds etc. I say range because you might be fine with primes. Like maybe a 35 or 24 prime accomplishes wide angle and you can stick with the 70-200 for workhorse lens. I don’t know. Get other opinions If that is out of budget I think I would vote looking at mark 1 versions and used market first. Like I would think an R6i or A7iii with better glass would outdo the R6ii and A7v with limited glass Alternatively Sony may have more third party lens options like 35-150 or something that might be a better one lens setup. Also like, If you have any experience with one system it would probably lower the learning curve of trying to figure this all out on the road. So maybe consider what you’re familiar with before embarking on trip and trying to cram a bunch of on the job learning to a professional gig More on reddit.com

r/canon on Reddit: Deciding between the Canon R6 and Sony A7IV
June 29, 2023 -

I've been wanting to purchase a camera for some time now and have decided to choose between the Canon R6 and the Sony A7IV. I chose the R6 over the R6 II since I'm mainly using the camera for stills. The Sony A7IV is the camera that I've always wanted and I have the budget for it but there is a sale on B&H that would make the cost of a Canon R6 900$ cheaper than the A7IV. This price difference has me questioning whether or not I should stick with the A7IV and opt for the R6. The megapixels on the R6 are also a concern for me.

What do you guys think would be the right choice in this instance? Would there be a major quality difference? I'm also wondering if Canon is looking to make an R6 upgrade anytime soon. Thanks!

r/SonyAlpha on Reddit: In a Canon ecosystem. Sony A7 IV vs Canon R6 Mk II vs Canon R8
December 1, 2023 -

Hello,

Sorry for the nth post about these full frame cameras, but I am torn. I've watched videos, looked at comparisons, and read other reddit opinions.

All of these seem like great cameras, but I just can't make a choice. I have been using my dad's Canon 5D Mk II and Mk IV for a few years as well but I am looking for a mirrorless camera.

I am current a college film student and am looking for a camera that I can use for short films, headshot and portrait photography, and can help get into gig works such as sport photography and event photography and videography.

The Sony A7 IV seems like a great option because of the available of lenses, but I am already have access to EF lenses (24-70, 28-105, and 70-200). However, I'm not sure how thrilled my dad would be if I kept using his lenses.

I threw the R8 in their as it has the guts of an R6 Mk II but it has a horrible battery and is missing IBIS and a second slot. However, the kit is $1500 while the Sony A7 IV and Canon R6 Mk II kits are $2500.

r/canon on Reddit: Need Advice on Best Camera for World Tour – Sony A7V vs. Canon R6 Mark II or something else?
February 20, 2025 -

Hey everyone,

I’m about to embark on a world tour as part of an artist’s team, handling social media content creation for the musical artist. Up until now, I’ve been relying solely on my iPhone for all my work with my clients over the past year, but with the scale of this opportunity, I know it’s time to invest in a proper camera that can handle both photo and video in all kinds of settings.

I’m currently considering:
📷 Sony A7V
📷 Canon R6 Mark II

What I Need:

  • Low-light performance: I’ll be shooting a lot of live concerts, so it needs to perform well in dark venues with bright stage lighting.

  • Versatility: It should also be great for daytime content (behind-the-scenes, travel shots, social media reels, etc.).

  • Photo & Video Balance: I need a camera that excels in both (I can’t carry separate cameras).

  • Ease of Use: I have one month before the tour starts, so I need something I can learn quickly but also grow into.

Lens Recommendation?
Since this purchase is already pushing my budget to the absolute max, I can probably afford only one lens to start. What would be the best all-around lens for my needs? Something versatile enough for both live shows and daytime shooting.

I’d love any advice on which camera would be the better investment and what lens would give me the most flexibility. I need to buy ASAP so I can start practicing! Also, if theres a place you recommend to buy used gear please let me know!

Thanks in advance for the help—I really appreciate any insight! 🙏🏼

📷 Sony A7V 📷 Canon R6 Mark II You mean the A7iv? The A7v does not exists (yet). a proper camera that can handle both photo and video in all kinds of settings I would argue that the R6ii is overall superior to the A7iv, but not in every single aspect (the photo resolution just to name one). It's also slightly newer. Anyway, I think an R6ii + RF 24-70 f/2.8 IS L would be the most versatile do-it-all combination for both photo and video. You can achieve very similar results with equivalent Sony body + lens. One worty consideration is that you could go for Sony body + a third party lens and save a bit of money. If ease of use and handling/ergonomics are a priority for you, Canon camera are highly regarded. I think you should base your decision on what you plan on the long term and look at potential future lenses that you might need.

I have a canon R3 with three RF lenses and one EF I love the camera but I don't need the speed. I'm find myself thinking about about a high MP Sony A7R IV or V. I was thinking about buying the A7R IV and maybe the 24-70mm 2.8 GM and keeping my R3 just to see if I like the camera/ ecosystem before I switch not loaded so it would be one or the other.

Has anyone owned both cameras and give advice.

Any major reason to buy the real buy the A7R V over the IV.

How does the glass compare? Sony seems to be much more affordable with more 3rd party..

I mostly shoot electronic no mechanical and I like shooting animals and scenery and some portrait. I don't shoot a ton of sports other than auto racing and that is rarely, thus not needing high burst rate just looking for sharp photos with accurate auto focus.
