For a professional portfolio I would not encourage it. But for a school application I would include it. They likely want to see motivation, passion, and that underlying talent and understanding is present. If you get a chance to discuss your designs, make sure to mention whether or not you used templates. Also talk about the reasons for your decisions. I've been doing this for years, but for when I'm presenting the first copy draft. Not really for portfolio. I'm in SaaS, so grabbing screenshots of really pro looking stuff is pretty easy! That said, you're brilliant for doing this the way you are. You have no idea the garbled mess people attach to emails as a "portfolio". A rando .docx with crazy spacing, weird-ass fonts, no context or notes on the rationale behind the copy. Just looking real bonkers, like is this how you're gonna be turning your actual work in? Presenting your copy well realllllyyyyy stands out. So much more than you would think! And Canva makes it so simple. Anything you can do to show that you treat your work with respect reveals a lot about your character as a copywriter, I think. You don't need to go to town, and a great design won't save shit copy. But, if you're neck and neck with another candidate and their portfolio looks like Satan's used toilet paper while yours has a pristine little Canva halo over it...
