Sadly yes. They did the same thing to me too. Capital One won't let you grow. After my bankruptcy I had the Capital One card for 10 years paying their annual fee. Unfortunately my own bank (RBC were equally hard on me.) Finally I reached out to BMO and they were really good to me. Now have a BMO credit card. I canceled my Capital One card. They helped me regain my credit rating but their strategy seems to keep people locked in. Seems kind of predatory to me. I would have thought they'd want to keep customer loyalty but they just didn't care. I also went right to their management several times. Pay it off and move on. It's truly possible. Good Luck! Canadian stocks are much more tax efficient for a Canadian than non-Canadian stocks, which makes a tilt towards Canada sensible for a Canadian. Look up Ben Felix’s video on “Home Country Bias,” I think he goes into this more in that video. More on reddit.com

I've had a gold mastercard from capital one for literally a year less 5 days so far (Jan 13 2024)
I want to switch to a card with no annual fee, and can't find any information on what capital one could do for me. I called and they don't allow product changes, and told me I need to close my account and apply for a new one after 30 days. They also said some people can have 2 cards, but refused to provide me with any information on the criteria for this.
Essentially they were not helpful at all. They've also kept my limit at $300 the whole time so far which i understand, cause I got the card right after bankruptcy. But the lack of customer support is crazy.
They kept referring to the online system, which is told them wasn't giving me any information either.
Anyone have experience?

I had their basic card for like 5+ years after a consumer proposal and it was at the core of rebuilding my credit - went from the initial $300 limit now to about $3000 - great product!
