r/CreditCards on Reddit: Venture vs Venture X (very similar?)
January 26, 2025 -

Hi everyone! I've been doing research on getting my first rewards card, mostly for travel. I have CapOne Savor, so I was looking into the Venture X since it is recommended a lot. However, I realized that Venture and Venture X are extremely similar. If I don't value the $300 travel credit and my home airport doesn't have a capital one lounge, does it make more sense to just get the Venture since I still get global entry credit (which I want). They both have the same SUB and 2x on everything which is extremely ideal for me. Is there something I'm missing? It seems as though the travel protections are the same as well, but Venture is only $95. Thanks!

EDIT: Update! I ended up going with the Venture X. I have at least 3 flights this year that I haven't booked yet that the travel credit will likely come in handy for. Worse case is I'll downgrade to the Venture, but thank you all for the helpful breakdowns and insights :) unrelated, but here's to hoping that Southwest flights get added to the CapOne portal at some point 🤞🏿

As long as you travel once a year and can use $300 in credit, get the Venture X. They are similar, but the Venture X also has better purchase protections and insurances. While you might never ever need to use it, it's there in case you do. Also if you end up liking the C1 portal (which is actually the easiest to use out of all the major bank portals) then at least you get some elevated categories like flights, hotels, car rentals. You also get the 10K anniversary miles every year. While most people just peg this at $100, if you actually use this for transfer partners like an international airline, that 10K is more like $150-$300 depending on what redemption it contributes towards. So you can at minimum offset or exceed that $395 AF. As for Lounge access, you also get Priority Pass. Some people will say it's not worth it just for that, but I'd argue again. It's better you have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. You never know where your travel plans could be where you might just be able to go to a lounge. It's better than waiting at the gates.

It makes sense for the first year since you'll get the 75k SUB. It's questionable in year 2 an onwards since there isn't a way to cancel out the $95 annual fee on the Venture Rewards. At least with the Venture X, you can make back the majority of the $395 annual fee. But definitely go for the Venture Rewards if it aligns more with your lifestyle then think about if you want to keep it long term after the first year.

Hi all, First time post. I have been eyeballing the Venture X but I have never been pre approved for just the regular Venture. Just today I got a pre approval for the Venture! For those looking to complete the Capital One Duo, why would one choose the Venture over the Venture X?
From my understanding the normal venture is paying $95 for a 2x catch all card with not much in value coming back meaning your setting $95 on fire Vs venture X which has a more upfront cost but can fairly easily get the money back More on reddit.com

Should I get Venture X or Venture Rewards?
I have a purchase of 10k coming up here soon too so I literally just signed up for the Venture X. I got the X because I loved the fact the incentives and rewards literally cover themselves. 300 travel credit and 10k miles on anniversary. More on reddit.com

Is the Venture X card worth it?

For the average traveler, the Venture X can be well worth its annual fee (rates & fees) since it can be offset simply by utilizing the $300 annual credit for bookings through Capital One Travel and redeeming the 10,000 anniversary miles which are worth $100 toward travel. And the card just piles on more value from there through its rewards, lounge access and premium perks.
