September 5, 2024 - Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): This number indicates how well the battery can start your vehicle in cold weather. Higher CCA ratings are beneficial in colder climates. Reserve Capacity (RC): This measures how long the battery can supply power without the engine running. A higher RC means the battery can provide power to your vehicle's systems for a longer period in case of alternator failure. To choose the right battery size for your car, start by checking your owner’s manual.

r/Cartalk on Reddit: Can someone explain car battery specs please?
November 17, 2021 -
So I recently bought a honda civic hatch '98, 1.4i (d14a3), since it sat for a while the battery's gone bad.
It's my first car so I have no idea what specs to look for, I'm guessing the voltage is always 12v, and that size doesn't really matter since the bad one in the civic is already bigger than the slot for it.
What other specs are important? Where can I find the ones that fit my car?

Voltage is always the same 12 V, but capacity and power varies. Capacity is how much charge your battery has and is given in Ah (ampere-hour) (30 Ah means a current of 1 amps could flow for 30 h or vice versa) if you multiply it with voltage you get Wh (how much power can it supply for 1 hour). Note that these values are only approximate because you shouldn't empty you battery completely and voltage varies with charge. Maximum Power of a battery is given in A (amperes) and it tells you how much power can be drawn from a battery. You can get power if you multiply current with voltage (500A x 12V=6000 W=6kW). I guess you could buy battery with less capacity but it is not recommended since it will empty quicker if you turn your engine off but keep the radio on). You really shouldn't change the wattage (amps) because your battery might not be powerful enough to start your engine. To get correct battery specs search for "car battery, model, year of release, engine (2.0 dCi 173 HP/130 kW) or look into your owner manual/service manual.
