When and why did whole car exterior Christmas lights get popular? I swear I didn't see any here until this year.
https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/christmas-lights-car-massachusetts-police/ I saw this article earlier today and it didn’t even answer their own question really. I think it’s dumb. Something small like a parade is one thing, but driving around like this all the time just seems like a distraction. What happened to a wreath on the front of your truck being enough? Permanent Christmas Lights Question
You can buy those where each light has connectors, or you can buy ones that come in strands. Strands will be a tad cheaper but yes if one fails you need to splice into a strand instead of just disconnecting the failed one. I’m about to order some for mine (first project) and they are 5 LEDs/strand and each strand is 1m. Thanks to another user I found this link: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805297865548.html ? And I messaged the seller for slight alterations (45m of lights instead of 50m, but keeping 50m of track with the extra 5m being track with no holes). I also asked for more end caps (some of each of the 3 styles they offer). That package comes with the power supply but you still need a controller. The common one is to get from QuinLED, I’m planning on the Dig-Quad. You also need an electrical box to enclose them. Even though the Mean Well 12V 29a has a fan, if the control box is going outside you may want more fans. You can add it yourself but I found one on Amazon that has 2 fans and a thermostat to set when they turn on/off, it’s $80 for a 15” box compared to ones you can get for ~$50 that are box only. Then if you want to save on electricity, you can get a 5v power supply and 5v relay so the 12v power supply can turn off when not in use but the controller can stay on (keeps it connected to the internet); this is not a necessity. If you have a spare 5v charger laying around you can use that instead of a 5v power supply but will need to strip the ends of the cord. In addition to the 2 videos the other user linked, here are 2 videos I found helpful: https://youtu.be/DM-VhGarNgM?t=420 The YPS Puck track is what you are going for. https://youtu.be/WjlweVd7MZc This is a review/demo of a company selling what you are going for. I looked into the last one, and it is 10LED/m instead of 5, and they have a control box with a DigQuad and whatnot (don’t think any fans though) and their app is just WLED-based (see second video), and for their complete package it is $1400 for 46m, which let’s call it $1600 for extra parts and whatnot. On my own DIY it’ll be maybe under $950, so about $550 more so not a bad deal and again they offer 10 LEDs/m instead of my 5. 10 LEDs/m however does mean they will need more power injection and more power total (I don’t know what power supply their’s come with but you’ll need 550W+ if you don’t buy theirs and do your own; their package without the controller is about I think $500-$550 less, but also comes with slightly less accessories). This post and this user has been helpful in answering some of my questions: https://www.reddit.com/r/WLED/comments/17qbt8x/permanent_holiday_lights_dig_octa_12v_rgbw_pucks/ You can see one of my recent posts where I too asked a lot of questions. Some other posts I found helpful for wiring reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/WLED/comments/17g9mvp/enclosure_howd_i_do/ https://www.reddit.com/r/WLED/comments/17kpexw/first_controller/ And QuinLEDs post on relays as well as other posts on his website: https://quinled.info/quinled-dig-quad-using-a-power-supply-relay/ More on reddit.com

Some new cars have plugs that can take strings of Christmas lights. I get it. But what about others. Are there ways to plug in Christmas lights to a car? And what are the best ways to attach them so they don't fall off when driving or melt from the heat of the car parts?
