You fucked up. You're screwed. In hindsight, you should have insisted on a 100% refund in February 2021, followed by a rebill in May 2021 after you received the product. That did not happen. Instead, you just agreed to accept deferred billing beginning in May 2021. You still had to pay the balance in full by January 2023 to avoid retroactive finance charges. According to your post, they never said they would reset your promo period (and, why should they, if their money was outstanding from February 2021?). Unfortunately, you misunderstood what you were getting. Synchrony and CareCredit are predators, so they are not going to do anything for you out of a sense of doing the right thing. There whole idea behind deferred interest charges is to ensnare people like you, as opposed to normal 0% APR promotional financing, that does not bill retroactively if the balance is not paid in full by the end of the promotional period. Since you never received a refund, your balance has been outstanding, and your 24 month deferred interest period began, in February 2021. No one is going to be able to help you here. r/CreditCards on Reddit: Synchrony Bank/Care Credit Interest charges advice??
May 23, 2024 -

In 2021 I was advised by my dentist to use CareCredit for my Invisalign. Signed a contract and was told about the “promotional period” where you have 2 years to pay off the debt ($4500) or will charge a 26% interest once you are done with promotional period. I am not someone who takes out credit cards and debt like that usually so when I started getting charges for the Invisalign right off the bat without actually getting the product I got spooked and called my dentist to stop billing asap and to begin billing and promotional period once I received the product.

They created a dispute with CareCredit along with myself and I have a dispute letter from CareCredit stating to refund all credit back to me from Feb 2021 which was the initial sign up. Once I received the product a CareCredit rep told me I could start my billing in May 2021 after creating a ticket with them in conjunction with my dentist. I said “sure that works.” Ticket was closed.

Had all my payments on autopay from there. Fast forward to 2023 and I realized I was in over $2k debt despite paying each month the same amount to effectively pay off the $4500 in 2 years. Well, turns out CareCredit did NOT change my promotional period to May 2021 like they promised they had and instead kept it at Feb 2021!!

When I called them and asked for the phone call with the rep I spoke to or the ticket info they told me they didn’t have it. I only have the ticket receipt (no info just that it was closed in April 2021) and then 2 different accounts because rep created a new one for new billing/account. It’s crazy to me that because CareCredit didn’t change my promotional period like they said they would (and the dispute letter that said it) I am now with all this debt and my credit score (which was mid 800’s) has tanked to 655/692.

I have hired credit sage to help remove this off my record but it’s already been 95 days and I’m worried it won’t work…any attorneys or people with experience with synchrony bank or debt have any advice? I am desperate because I have receipts but it doesn’t seem to matter? And I have no idea what to do.

UPDATE: DONT hire credit Sage!!! It was a scam for me. I do believe it may work for some (just like synchrony) but they deceive you in thinking that they are the ones that purchased your debt and straight up lied to me (by 2 different reps) that they could “GUARANTEE” yes “GUARANTEE “ based off looking at my credit report they could remove it only to be told that they can’t guarantee anything. They will straight up lie and even with a recorded call they will claim info that was there isn’t. I feel like such a chump but it’s been a learning lesson and cautionary tale for those who have unfortunately had the displeasure of dealing with them.

This has nothing to do with Synchrony btw. Care Credit is a line of credit that can be used in places for self care. PoS wise it is the same as a credit card. The Dentist was the one that charged you for the product. I also do not understand this dispute story. The dentist is the one that can give a full refund as they are the ones charging you. Your dentist seems like a massive slime ball for charging you when you did not even get the product. Your receipts or proof does not matter. The monthly statement clearly lists out all the promotional periods and lengths. It is 100% your fault. I would complain to the dentist as they are the ones that screwed you here.

Why can't I pay off the CareCredit offered by Synchrony Bank using another credit card? - Quora
Answer (1 of 7): if the card you are attempting to PAY with offers cash advances, you can certainly use it to pay off another cc. you may need to request checks, or talk to cs to do so. you will also have huge fees. otherwise, no cc (that doesnt offer cash advances) will allow you to pay another cc.

r/Debt on Reddit: Care credit/Synchrony Bank help!
August 29, 2024 -

Hi!

Trying to pay all of my debts off in 2025 which includes almost $4400 to Care Credit (Synchrony bank). I had almost $12.5k in debt to them, but made a rather large payment last month which brought it down to the total of just over $4k.

Pretty much as soon as I made the payment my credit limit dropped drastically. It was $12.5k, now its only $4,700. Ive read Sychrony Bank does that often after a large payment is made which is so irritating. Now it looks I am still at a very high credit utilization.

My question— once this card is fully paid off, should I just close it? Will that affect my credit score badly? Im assuming they will continue dropping it after more payments are made.

Help!
