Sketchy for sure albeit on any type of deferred financing I would be certain that you actually payoff the amount in full by the deadline. I have heard of other finance companies that the minimum payment leaves like $1 due at the end and unless you're smart enough to pay the extra $1 in the final payment you get hit with the deferred interest. So care credit is often an interest free loan for an introductory period, 12, 18, or 24 months. If you pay the full amount before that period ends, you pay no interest. It sounds like you went past that period and got hit with all the interest that accrued during that 12 or 24 months, that's the 1212 in interest. It sucks, but those are the terms that you didn't read carefully enough when you signed up. Since it's a credit card, I'm guessing the interest is something like 29%. If your credit profile supports it, getting a personal loan from your bank for $3K and paying off care credit is absolutely a good idea, as the interest rate on the bank loan would likely be closer to 10%.
