i’m looking for a j97 a j01 or a santa fe jacket what color would you recommend out of light tan, moss green or like a chocolate brown. i know some might say “whatever you like the most” but i want a clear answer, what has the best to match with, most outfits, versatility. stuff like that thanks!
Hello. My focus here is color codes but I also touch on style code formats as well. I have compiled lists of color codes as well as explanations and examples.
1990s & Earlier: Style- & Color-Specific Codes
The style codes of early Carhartt items were unique to a particular style and color. For example, "JQ2005" and "JQ2007" both described a Quilted Flannel-Lined Duck Santa Fe Jacket but the difference in their ending is due to their difference in color: "5" refers to "Black" and "7" refers to "Natural".
Most styles that were introduced in the 1990s specified color at the end of the style code as in the previous example. However, existing styles from years prior continued to specify the color at the beginning of the style code, such as in 6BLJ: "6" refers to "Carhartt Brown".
In addition to the numbers referring to the color, letters were often used to describe features of the product, such as "C" for "Coat", "J" for "Jacket", "B" for "Blanket", "Q" for "Quilt", etc. However, some abbreviations are not as intuitive , such as "R" for "Thermal."
The middle of the codes differed as the style was updated but they also changed depending on whether the item was in a Regular or Tall size. For example, "CQ186" and "CQ196" are both the same style but "CQ186" is in Regular sizing and "CQ196" is in Tall sizing.
Here are some examples of style codes that existed before the 1990s:
Example 1: Blanket-Lined Duck Detroit Jacket in "Carhartt Brown"
6BLJ - "6" for "Carhartt Brown", "B" for "Blanket", "L" for "Lined", "J" for "Jacket"
Example 3: Blanket-Lined Denim Chore Coat in "Blue"
8LCT - "8" for "Blue", "L" for "Lined", "C" for "Coat", "T" for "Tall"
Here are some examples of style codes introduced in the 1990s:
Example 1: Blanket-Lined Sandstone Duck Coat
CB143 - "C" for "Coat", "B" for "Blanket", "43" for "Hunter Green"
Example 2: Quilted Flannel-Lined Duck Santa Fe Jacket
JQ2104 - "J" for "Jacket", "Q" for "Quilted", "4" for "Green"
Of course there are exceptions to the general trends. Knit items like shirts and sweatshirts do not follow the same code format as outerwear, pants, overalls, etc. Instead, their style codes were expressed as numbers.
Here is a list of the numbers that correspond to colors in most 1990s outerwear, bottoms, overalls, hats, and some shirts and accessories:

1997: Simplified Style & Color Codes
In 1997 Carhartt simplified their style code format to include letter prefixes followed by numbers. Three-letter color codes were introduced and were placed after the style code. Tags on items manufactured in 1997-1998 often had both the older style code and the newer style code to help this transition go smoothly. Here is an example of a transition tag that includes the new and old codes ("JQ0094").
Example 1: Blanket-Lined Duck Detroit Jacket
6BLJ and 6BLJT=> J01BRN - "J01" is the style, "J" for "Jacket" and "BRN" is the color "Carhartt Brown"

2012 - Six-Digit Style Numbers & Three-Digit Color Codes
In 2012, Carhartt changed their style code format again. Instead of letters followed by numbers, new style codes consisted of six numbers, such as "101074" or "103828", followed by a dash and the color code.
New color codes were also introduced that consisted of three numbers instead of three letters, such as "001" for "Black". Pre-existing letter color codes such as "BRN" or "BLK" are still used for some styles.
Here are some examples of the new style and color code format:
Example 1: Relaxed Fit Force Tappen Cargo Pant
101148-257 - "101148" is the style, "257" is the color "Yukon"

Hi everyone! I'm currently looking to purchase a Carhartt hoodie for the first time, but I'm still a bit unsure due to its relatively high price. Can anyone vouch for the durability of their hoodies??
Carhartt is my go-to hoodie, but I love duluth pants and shirts. I have never tried a duluth hoodie. What do you suggest for cold weather hoodie. I work in the trades and will wear it daily in the fall, winter, and early spring. I'm mostly concerned with high quality. I live in New England for reference. Thanks in advance.
Does anyone feel like the color options for carhartt's clothing as of late has been a bit boring? It's hard to find dark brown recently, the only green is a drab olive color. Most of the color options are boring and almost exclusively gray, black, navy, and occasionally the famous carhartt light brown. I'm not sure how to describe it, but all of the options for the logo sleeve hoodies are boring too. WIP is not something I really wear or buy, but in comparison their style and color options for their basic workwear styles are much more creative and varied. I can't tell if I'm complaining too much, so I apologize if I am. Honestly, I know it has been echoed on this sub frequently in the last few years, but I have been disapointed with Carhartt's overall quality for a fair while.
Found this on eBay, it’s a vintage black K184 hoodie from 09. Also has a sick embroidered tag at the corner of the front pocket.
I have mostly black and brown colored clothing if this helps at all, I'm also 17m at 6'3 and 180lbs and am white. I'm just curious as to which one I should get, any advice will be great
Long story short I have a heavyweight rain defender Carhartt that I use in the winter until it starts getting colder than I have a Carhartt jacket. I'm looking for a sturdy comfortable mid weight hoodie that I could use that's a step down from the rain defender. I don't care about the brand. I don't care about American made. If I can buy on Amazon that's a plus.
I run warm so I usually wear shorts even in the middle of winter but I just need a lighter hoodie that's still warm just not as warm.
I’ve had Carhartt jackets for years and have loved them, but have never treated myself to some insulated overalls. Old injuries are starting to get the better of my knees in the cold environment I work in (regularly <30°). I have a jacket in the traditional duck color and was wondering what color you all would suggest between the traditional duck, black, dark navy, and dark brown. Any input helps. Thanks!
I've been scouring the internet for a particular Carhartt hoodie. The one I have now is at the end of its life (8-10 years) and I love it. The style number is K497 and the link below is the exact one, but Amazon says it's unavailable. Any help?

Damn, that's a tough one. Best bet is that you will randomly find it in a couple years after endlessly scrolling depop. I will keep an eye out but it's a long shot. Being that's is a mainline piece that had a short distribution and it's not necessarily collectible, most people are wearing and using these, not buying and selling them.
I think there was a WIP blueprint collection that you may have better chances with if you are looking for a similar graphic.
If you just want the same blank hoodie in the same color, I'm sure one of the guys on here can tell you which hoodie would be the equivalent. Not sure if they made other textured knit hoodies or not but someone on here will probably be able to confirm.
I never seen this logo print before Nice
I'm looking for a minimalist black hoodie. My winters are about 15 to 20 degrees so no need for sherpa.
Thoughts on the midweight or heavyweight sweaters?

I’m really hoping to find this specific jacket style in “Moss” in a size medium. It seems like this colour must have been discontinued last year as there are none (except the odd 3-4XL) available online. I’ve checked around my local retailers and no luck - Anyone have any tips on where I might be able to find one left over?! Would be fine with shipping it from anywhere. TIA
I love this American giant hoodie my dad gave me but it’s falling apart. I beat the shit out of hoodies as a woodworker, welder, do all the shit type guy. Any suggestions for some sturdy, comfortable, affordable hoodies?
Looking to get a warm pullover hoodie to layer with for Canadian winters and to wear around the house (we keep it pretty cold inside).
On a harsh winter day, it'd be layered under a 700 down jacket with a Goretex shell overtop, so I doubt i'd need anything crazy (such as the arborwear double thick I've seen recommended a lot). Softer feel would be nice, and if its available to be ordered within Canada thats a plus.
So far I've looked at these:
1620 Basic Work Hoodie
Arborwear Cotton Single Thick Hooded Pullover
Carhartt Rain Defender® Loose Fit Heavyweight Hoodi
Flint and Tinder 10-Year Pullover Hoodie
Origin THE 100 KILO HOODIE
American Giant Classic Pullover
Reigning Champ Midweight Terry Standard Hoodie
Most of these don't have a Canadian retailer, which is unfortunate. What are your thoughts on these options? Did I miss anything?
Was thinking about getting the Carhartt heavyweight rain defender quarter zip hoodie after seeing it recommended all around on posts from 2-9 years ago, but stumbled onto a ton of far more recent posts and discussions (less than a year old) that all talked about how lots of Carhartt clothing, including the hoodie that interested me, had taken a nosedive in quality over the last while. A lot of people who, like me, didnt do any physical labour for work were also complaining about clothing wearing out within a year to a few months.
Im wondering if there are any similar plain-ish hoodies available for guys that are specifically:
Heavy/Warm (for winter in the UK, so around 0°C/32°F and up)
Comfy. I'll be wearing it at home as well as out and about.
-Preferrably under £70, but up to £100 if really good value.
-A large hood, with plenty of room. I hate hoodies where the hood barely gets within an inch or two of my hairline
-Good quality/durability. The Carharrt hoodie I was after was very well reviewed, but recent ones were far more negative
Im british, and not hugely picky about where it's from/made, as long as it's good quality. Any suggestions would be welcome!
