Hi everyone! I'm currently looking to purchase a Carhartt hoodie for the first time, but I'm still a bit unsure due to its relatively high price. Can anyone vouch for the durability of their hoodies??

Go with a heavyweight rain defender. They will keep you warm and dry and last you multiple years. If you’re concerned with price, certain colors go on clearance or there is sales often this time of year. But yes the hoodies are worth it.

In my experience it depends on what you want out of the hoodie, and which style you choose. If you’re looking for a heavyweight work hoodie, then yes, what was the Paxton? I think- has held up well in an industrial work setting over two years. The lightweight graphic ones are nice, but they tend to wear faster due to the thinner material, but I can say that out of.. three or four of these, the graphic part has actually held up far better than I expected. I know this was a bit of a ramble, but I hope that helps.

Was thinking about getting the Carhartt heavyweight rain defender quarter zip hoodie after seeing it recommended all around on posts from 2-9 years ago, but stumbled onto a ton of far more recent posts and discussions (less than a year old) that all talked about how lots of Carhartt clothing, including the hoodie that interested me, had taken a nosedive in quality over the last while. A lot of people who, like me, didnt do any physical labour for work were also complaining about clothing wearing out within a year to a few months.
Im wondering if there are any similar plain-ish hoodies available for guys that are specifically:
Heavy/Warm (for winter in the UK, so around 0°C/32°F and up)
Comfy. I'll be wearing it at home as well as out and about.
-Preferrably under £70, but up to £100 if really good value.
-A large hood, with plenty of room. I hate hoodies where the hood barely gets within an inch or two of my hairline
-Good quality/durability. The Carharrt hoodie I was after was very well reviewed, but recent ones were far more negative
Im british, and not hugely picky about where it's from/made, as long as it's good quality. Any suggestions would be welcome!

I recently picked up the heavyweight Carhartt pullover hoodie (formerly known as the Paxton / Rain Defender) in a size Large, which is usually my true-to-size in most clothing. I'm 162 lbs with a 42" chest.
The fit is slightly oversized, which I could live with, but the length after the kangaroo pocket feels a bit too long and floppy. My main concern is with the neck hole, even in the Large, it feels somewhat snug, so I'm hesitant to size down to a Medium in case the neck becomes too tight.
If anyone has experience with this hoodie:
Does it shrink after washing/drying (especially in length)?
Does the neck opening loosen up with wear or shrink even more?
Would you recommend staying with the Large or trying a Medium?
For reference, a Large fits me perfectly in the Carhartt lined Detroit jacket.

I find the neck hole to be too small on the 100615 sweatshirt as well. Nearly all of the crewneck or hooded sweatshirts seem to be that way. You could try one of the older 1/4 zip styles, or the 100617 1/4 zip . The neck opening will be slightly smaller in a Medium. Shrinkage should not be more than 2-4% over the life of the garment--if you follow the care instructions. If you wash cold and hang dry, shrinkage will be less than 2%. Shrinkage is always more noticeable in length than width. Hoodies are sized by chest, not height or weight. You state your chest size is 42". A size Medium hoodie is cut to accommodate chest sizes 38-40." A Medium will be too small.

I have the this hoodie in a large tall. After washing it a 4 or 5 times I would say it doesn't shrink I am 5 ft 11 and 178 lbs. It is a little loose but I usually wear a few layers under it. It has not faded or lost its shape either. Hope this helps.
