Hi, i am a beginner just starting out. I currently play on a super old Yamaha YES (Yamaha Education Series) keyboard and looking to get a full 88 key one.

Currently I found a Yamaha P125a for $670CAD used. Then at Costco they have the Casio CSF-1, which is just the CDP S110 with the bench and stand in a bundle, for $525+tax CAD (~$593CAD)

My budget is tight as my current keyboard still works, but the extra $70 seems worth it? (I dont plan on selling my current keyboard as it belongs to my parents)

Has anyone tried both and know what the differences are? Torn between spending the $70 on something used but possibly much better or saving that money and buying new.

The yamaha might be a bit nicer. But I still gig with my s100. It's just so small and nice and does the job. In this price bracket go with your wallet or your gut, it's not a big deal. If you start playing the "if I add 100 I could get this one" game you'll end up at the top quickly. So get one and enjoy.

Not particularly fond of any of them :( Has anyone tried both and know what the differences are? You must try these yourself. The preferences are very subjective, so you can't trust others' opinions.

Which one would be better for a complete beginner? And please don't recommend anything beyond these two! These were from what I looked up the best in my price range.

I watched a lot of reviews of them and some comparisons but that didn't really sway me to one over the other. So I would appreciate some advice.

Yamaha P-45, definitely. I played on both side by side in a Guitar Center because I was curious about them, and the action on the CDP-S100 and S150 was noticeably worse, despite the very small difference in price. If you've never played on anything else, you might not mind the Casio action, but to me, it still had a bit of that springy feel that's typical of the cheaper synth and semi-weighted actions. The Yamaha P-45 action felt smoother and more responsive.

Yamaha P45 has very good weight that a beginner will find pleasant but also needed for appropriate expression / feedback. Sound is very good and the size is compact

Hey there! I owned a P-125 for about a year (loved it) and now own a PX-S1100 (love it). They each have their pro's and cons, I actually have reviews for both on my YouTube blog if you want to check them out. They both have great sounds and nice action, the 125 is slightly on the light side, and the Casio lighter still - the Casio also has a nice matte finish that I prefer over the shiny smooth keys on the Yamaha. The Yamaha has a nicer onboard interface, and a better app, the Casio is smaller, lighter and can run on batteries so they each have their +/-. For me I like both but prefer the Casio for the faster action with matte finish, and the portability. Anyhow you can't go wrong with either they're both nice. Hi all, I hope this isn’t an overkill post, but I’m having trouble deciding between the P125 and the S360. I’ve played for a while but haven’t in a few years and want something to get back into it. I’d mostly stick to piano and epiano patches, but I would enjoy having some additional sounds and synths to noodle around on.

The Yamaha is able to connect to VSTs pretty easily due to the audio interface where the Casio is not, but it has plenty of sounds to choose from (although quality may not be there). Action seems pretty comparable with both and price is pretty close from my local shops/online. The Casio might be a tad cheaper. Polyphony isn’t an issue for either. The casio just came out this year while the Yamaha was released in 2017 or 2018 - is something going to replace the 125?

Anyway, anything that I’m missing that could sway one way or the other? I don’t plan on recording or gigging. Thank you for your help!

I have the P125 and I love it. The feel of the weighted keys and sound make it feel like a real grand (within reason). I highly recommend the Yamaha, but I haven’t played the Casio.

I’m in the market for a new keyboard and I’ve narrowed it down to these two. Which one is better as far as features as well as action and sound realism?

Action and sound are highly subjective, so you can't rely on others' opinions. Try FP30X and ES110/520 too. PX-S action is quite a bit of a compromise on account of the small dimensions. Very short pivot so heavy near the fallboard; uneven black and white keys. Mind the speakers in this category are rather crap level. And the sound gets outright miserable if the DP isn't placed appropriately considering the speaker orientation. The sound over quality headphones (like sth comfortable over-ear open-back from Sennheiser or Beyerdynamics in the 100-200 bucks range) is a long way better.

Casio's tend to have noisy keyboards that get worse over time. My Casio (not an S1000) has become so noisy that I do not even like playing it anymore. I have played both the S1000 and the P125. A new S1000 has a noisier keyboard action than the P125. Also, I have to say that the keyboard on the S1000 is a brilliant innovation with regard to its quality vs size. But how will this technology last with use?

I would go with the Yamaha. Ultimately it comes down to which key action you prefer. FWIW I have a P115 and it is quite good for the price. Yamaha electric pianos are also really common in lesson rooms in my area and I think for good reason.
