Reposting to clarify the length of the dress, which I thought wasn’t as clear in my previous post. (Thank you to those who had responded!) It’s a formal, nighttime wedding in June. Ceremony is a refurbished barn but the reception is in a very nice ballroom. The dress is a true midi on me, so shorter than it appears on the model. I would it say it falls mid calf.

In general, a midi dress can be fine for a formal dress code. It’s a matter of the look of the dress (the fabric, style, quality, etc.), not the length. Honestly, this particular dress looks a little young/informal to me. It’s borderline and I think it depends on your confidence level because there will be people who are dressed more formally than you and you have to not mind that. I wouldn’t say it’s inappropriate, but definitely closer to the less formal end of the spectrum.
