The CEH isn't great, but at least it's an industry-recognized certification that some employers might have among their possible job requirements. The Cisco course and badge are useless as far as those things are concerned. (It might be be decent material to learn, though.) If you want a better beginning ethical hacking/pentesting certification than CEH that's recognized (and cheaper), look toward the eJPT or even CompTIA PenTest+. More on reddit.com

Time is the investment you need, patience to learn and holding belief that you can and will get things done is better than a 40buck course. Use the course, practise CTF and have projects, there's no easy path to making 6 figures after the ceh!

I’m a SOC analyst/incident responder with 2 years experience, and passed Security+. I’m mainly looking to improve my skills so I can move into a more senior incident responder role, where I’ll also be helping with some internal pentesting and engineering.
Is CEH a useful certification? And is it something a non-pentester could realistically pass or do you really need to have some real life offensive security experience before taking it?

Look at eJPT which is way more fun (3 day cruisy exam at home all hands on). Pentest+ looks good on resume (US DoD approved standard 8140/8570.01-M) which helps get foot in the door for government clients. No to anything eccouncil imo.
